Forums - Nintendo - Anyone want to go on record that the Vitality sensor is just a gimmick?

I expect HUGE things from the vitality

Around the Network

I imagine it'll be huge in fitness games. That doesn't really take special vision to see. I imagine next gen fitness games something like it will be standard.

How it's used in traditional games is what I'm curious about. Who knows? It may launch with something like Eternal Darkness.

i can't say until i see some games. Shigsy did hint on how it would work in Zelda if they would use it in the game. he said that the more stressed out you are the harder the enemies get. this will be huge if done right.

Or, in reality, people who don't get stressed by games will find it far too easy and see no benefit to the sensor while those who do find it infinitely frustrating and wish the VS were never created.  If he said that, it may have been one of the biggest mistakes he's made as a game designer.  It will take much nore thought being put into it than that.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Having the VS does not mean the game will be easy until you get stressed so it can get harder.

Imagine you playing a horror game and nothing happens but you expect things to happen any moment. You get stressed and the music ramps up and makes you stress even more and then it stops and you start to calm down. But then something happens and you get attacked and depending on how scared you are the enemy will behave differently..

sure, i'll go on the record saying it won't be successful. even nintendo doesn't seem to know what to do with the thing as nintendo announced the hardware almost a year ago and we still don't have any software to go with it.

Uuuumm, who told you they don't have any software for it?

NINTENDO

nintendo forever . . .

I heard there was this on-rails game coming out for it where you rub your socked feet on the carpet and build electrical energy which charges shots and repairs broken machines.
Releasing with the game is Mario Karpet+ for those with hardwood floors.

I can't believe no one else laughed at this.  I'm sitting at work and almost gave away that I'm playing on the Internet instead of working on my project.

The vitality sensor (hardware) is not as important as the software. From what we've heard, the software is going to be about relaxation and meditation. There really couldn't be a better idea.

Personally I'd love a game about meditation and relaxation. It's going to be completely opposite from most games that are available which do more to wind you up and stress you out. People who don't like games may be convinced to buy something like this.

This is going to be a perfect complement to Wii Fit and Wii Sports. I'm hoping that they make the vitality sensor a little less constricting to wear so you can play it with a game like Wii Fit. Being able to keep track of your pulse while exercising is big.

Millions of Wiis were bought by hospitals, therapy clinics, rehabilitation centers, and assisted living homes. The Vitality sensor goes right with that audience. Add sleep clinics, meditation centers, and mental facilities to that list.
