Look up what the acronym jrpg stands for. That is what it means. You can add your own texture all you want but at the end of the day JRPG stands for japanese role playing game and sod all else.

I can agree with that.  VC is a JTSARPG, and as a bonus its also good.

This thread is still going on? I thought we reached a unanimous decision that Valkyria Chronicles was a third person shooter, 44 posts ago!

Interesting.  Do you use something else instead of Order in UK?  (second D for an O).  I may need to move Japanese up to Class and bring the rest down.  Have not done any real Taxonomic Classification since Paleontology in college.

Oh SORRY

that should be "Off" not "down"

I always got confused there!

If it's an SRPG and it Japanese, doesn't that make it a JRPG?
What most people aren't paying enough attention to is the fact that genre boundaries have always been pushed and even crossed in many cases.
Just because an RPG plays differently from another doesn't mean it's not an RPG.
Resonance of fate is one of the only games that I can think of with a similar battle system to Valkyria.
Is ROF a JRPG? Of course it is.
You don't have to fit a strict set of rules to be an rpg, and no, you don't need towns to be an RPG. To be honest the bare minimum is just a few RPG elements that recur very often in your game is enough. Look at Borderlands for example.
Pen and Paper Role Playing games are still rpgs despite the lack of towns or story.

jRPG includes all different aspect of RPG including action rpg, turn-based rpg, etc. jRPG is not associated with gameplay mechanic but more associated with:

Character Design
Story Themes
Art direction.

Definitely it's a JSRPG...
