M$ is going to have a TALL mountain of expectation to climb for this device, so they had better be bringing their serious A game for this.

This is what worries me. I dont understand or see how this is going to really change our lives drastically like all of these people are saying. Its seriously being touted like its on par with the discovery of antibiotics, the microwave or even color TV.

I think something like this being trickled out and fine tuned before going all in the way MSFT appears to be would have been a better idea, but i guess we will see. I'd really like for people to stop saying how life altering and revolutionary its going to be across more than gaming and tell me why it will be.

I am Kong.

Strong and passionate, I tend to be misunderstood, sometimes even feared. I don't want to fight, I don't want to cause trouble, all I ask is a little love, and a little peace. If I don't get what I want, I get angry, and throw barrels and flaming oil at whatever's stopping me. What Video Game Character Are You?

can someone explain wat is meant by more than just games?

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

how is that in any way good for gamers , jason rubin just likes to talk hes the kinda guy who likes to stir the pot but inside he has no idea what hes talking about and just regurgitating something he read in a forum.

he basically said on the show that the killer ip might not even be a game at all ??? he does realize natals whole purpose of being on the 360 is to attract the more casual gamer who isnt inclined to using a controller right? i mean what application is he talking about "power point apps" get real dude no ones buying a 360 and natal so they can swift through digital pages of data.

when he talks about things like this i get the feeling that he doesnt really care for the game industry anymore and hes just turning into this corporate money hungry business man sorry but we already have enough bobby koticks we dont need another one.

one thing he mentioned on that episode is that he expects games to be charging subscriptions or micro fees which in reality is already happening all over the web and iphone . if they want to release more mmos on console or more social type gaming then by all means do it as long as the product is worth the money people will buy it, look at world of warcraft 13 million subscriptions all paying 15 dollars a month by far the largest user base in history for online gaming.

i gotta say though natal is a huge risk, where are the games how is it even possible to play a shooter on that unless you integrate both buttons and movement im very very skeptical about natal and so are developers.

The potential is there for all sorts of other interactive stuff that non-gamers would be interested in depending on how good and accurate the device is.

For Example

Yoga/fitness/tai chi training where it can actually comment on your positions

handsfree TV remote control, no more lost TV remote.

Interactive Karma Sutra instruction

those are just a few i could think of quickly, I am sure others with more imagination can come up with a lot more. In the end it all comes down to how well the device works and how well MS market it to alternative untapped audiences.

Natal is just a small part of Microsoft's natural user interface research. They're always looking for more ways to intuitively interface with computing devices.

Other examples I can think of - more interactivity in games via body language and facial gestures, interaction with information sources like Bing maps/travel/yellow pages (see demonstrations from TED), creative applications like art/music composition, social media integration, etc.

Natal was always bigger than just gaming. It'll be interesting to see what will come of it.

I'm glad a lot of people are excited about Natal, but everyone really needs to tone it down a bit. With the way things are going and the huge expectations people are putting on this peripheral, it will fail even though it might not be a failure. Meaning Natal might be successful, but it will never live up to the expectations that are being set for it. Nothing can. I have heard some really crazy things people honestly believe they will doing on Natal; never mind the logistics or physics behind making it a reality.

I agree. It will revolutionize lots of things more outside gaming, because for gaming I really don't see it making quite a bigger difference than what the Eyetoy made back in 2004...

Yeah, let the revolution come among us ^^

“Putting Natal in the Xbox gives it the opportunity to become a lot more than just a gaming machine… the things you can do outside of gaming justifies buying Natal."

Such as?.....

“If Microsoft plays its cards right it can sell far more Xbox’s … to people who don’t buy games.”

Interesting bit omitted by the elipses there "next generation" is what Rubin said.

So it seems Rubin might think Natal on 360 won't do fantastically, but it has the ability to lay a great foundation for the future.

If that is his opinion, then it's an opinion I share both for Natal and for Move.
