Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo publishing Samurai Warriors 3.... a bad sign?

I am aware this is not really the same kind of game as MH3, but maybe there is a certain strategy here? Could the target demographics be somewhat similar (even if the game isn't the same type), and so maybe Nintendo wants to give something more to those who did come over to the Wii in the West just for MH3 (or to those coonsidering to get the Wii)? This is after all another one of those "ZOMG this should have been on the PS3 why have they betrayed us" games.

Wheeling and dealing more than likely. First is probably the Team ninja thing someone mentioned, and second is probably for the sake of making deals for future support. Probably a good business move.

I'm thinking more about the mindset of the developer.  It's not like koei is the kind of company that needs other companys to publish for them.  which makes me think they don't think this will sell.  Which makes me think it may be effected their development decisions.

Well or just think about their situation.  Koei has not been having a lot of success in the 7th generation on any platform.  Compared to their success on the PS2, this generation has been a huge fallout.  Same for Tecmo, aside from their collaborations with MS.  There is a reason the two merged, because if they didn't, there would have been a hostile takeover of both... more than likely from SE.  Whether or not Samurai Warriors 3 did well, doesn't mean much.  More than likely, this was probably a decent selling title for them.  Point is, they need to start expanding and getting more of their products to sell.  Partnership through Nintendo seems to be something along those lines.  Already seeing Metroid: Other M and now SW3 in the West.  I don't think this is as much about Nintendo, but about these guys trying to stay afloat.  And maybe people don't like that Nintendo is helping them out (of course in turn helping themselves out) but I think i t is a good decision.  Not like Nintendo is acting like a charity case like MS does when paying huge amounts for exclusives, but they are doing it in hopes of turning these games into big sellers and building long-term relationships.  As far as we know, this oculd lead to some Dynasty Warriors games on the system.

I think it could help. If they see that Nintendo is publishing people will think it might actually be good and not another one of Koei's rehashed sequels with the only thing new is more characters. Nintendo could help push this more than Koei could.

I'm just saying... when Fist of the North star comes out.  My guess is Koei publishes it for the PS3/360... just like they did all the other DW based games.  I find it very odd Nintendo is doing this.

Really I just wish they'd finally make a ROTK 12.

Here's the thing though - when a game comes out on the PS360 in the West, it is usually advertised the hell out of. When a game from the same publisher comes out on the Wii, it is hardly advertised (usually it's not advertised at all). Maybe (maybe) Nintendo wants to either : 1. For whatever reason prevent this specific game from totaly bombing due to lack of advertising  OR 2. Prove a point (eg see - this is what happens when a game is advertised). It remains to be seen though if this game wil actually be advertised, even by Nintendo. It's not as though Excitebots was heavily advertised...

Then again it could be any of the theories mentioned in the previous posts in this thread.

Honestly, I see this in the same league as Microsoft paying developers for exclusives. Nintendo is doing this to make sure that their gaming machine a game release. Not to mention it helps improve relations with Tecmo-Koei even more. First with Metroid: Other M and now with Samurai Warriors 3. Nintendo let them use one of their popular franchises and Koei lets Nintendo have one of their franchises on their system. More work on the developer part but getting their hands on the Metroid license, that has worldwide popularity, and Nintendo publishing both games? What 3rd party developer would say 'no' to that? That's making easy money, which business loves.

I'm happy .... and BTW Nintendo there's ANOTHER Tecmo game that needs to be published in America.

I get the distinct reason Nintendo is publishing this game in North America is just based on the fact Koei wasn't going to because they thought it wasn't going to sell.

I mean, this isn't like DQ where it was announced during development... this game is already out in Japan.

There's a host of third party games for Wii that third party publishers aren't publishing outside of Japan because they feel they won't make a big enough profit on it or they are spending their 'localization budget' on other games.  If you actually look, Nintendo has dozens of titles they've brought over for third party companies, which they don't even have production ties to.

You can call this Nintendo's way of encouraging third parties to continue to work on the Wii.  I call it lazy third parties hitching a free ride on Nintendos back without taking any hits for their games not selling well.  And if their games don't sell well, guess who they blame?  That's right, Nintendo.
