are you sure my 94 year old great grandmother has a pc. I dont know about you but came on you want me to find 90 year olds that never used a computer before or haven't seen electronics in the past 25 years...... thats going to be hard

Yes every one is like you.  360 is doing well in NA thus it must be doing great all over the world.

Why can't Americans look past them selfs ?

hmm? i don't care about the 360 i was saying that Microsoft as a whole is one huge brand name and NA is only part of it. Now if i go to EU will all the people know about Microsoft, no they wouldn't. I'm just saying that MS has one of the biggest brand names out there believe it or not.

SCE is the biggest first party video game company

PSP is the most successful portable gaming device that isn't made by Nintendo.

I'm not quite sure, but I think Nintendo may be larger than SCE now.  It's hard to nail down exact employee counts for SCE given their fractured setup.

And really, iPhone/iPod Touch is the most successful gaming device not made by Nintendo.

Iphone isn't a gaming device.

NGage is a gaming device.

yeah i brought that out because they're both cell phones but one is made to be mainly a phone and the other is mainly gaming device.

and SCE is the biggest first party.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_divisions_of_Nintendo (Go down to "Development Studios" and look at the "internal" list)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Computer_Entertainment (go to "Internally Owned Studios")

yeah even though they're bigger, they seriously suck at marketing , Normal people don't know any First party studio (Or SCE) , but EVERYONE knows nintendo.

iPhone's a gaming device at this point. It wasn't made with that intention (like NGage) but that's where the market's taken it (unlike NGage).

And you can't just look at studio divisions to determine size (something would would actomatically favor the more fractured structure of SCEWWS versus the internal structure of NCL), you have to look at company size and employee count.   Nintendo employs "over 4000" people at last count, I can't find a solid figure for SCE for comparison (though SCEJ accounts for 1,300).  Nintendo actually also releases more games than SCE, though not all are made internally (in either case).

@bolded

your serious? the NGage was the first (and probably last) gaming device by Nokia it was marketing as a gaming device with Phone features and its main features is gaming (i have one)

@SCE thing

i don't know about that but you might find numbers here

No, but it will happen. And the sooner the better. Competition = GOOD.

I know what NGage is.  I kinda wanted one too, if only for Xanadu Next.  But it flopped immediately, got turned into a software platform for their phone line in general, then got killed off entirely.  iPod Touch/Phone is like the opposite, it's been dragged almost unexpectedly into the gaming market... but it's most certainly a gaming platform at this point.  Moreso than NGage ever managed sadly.

Can't find SCE employee counts there either. :/

I did find total assets on Wiki though... SCE = 900 billion yen, Nintendo = 1.8 trillion yen.

lol.  Most foreigners I've met personally speak english as well actually.

Also, I think you're severely undersestimating just how pervasive Windows actually is.  In 2007 Microsoft announced they had reached an installed base of 1 billion active Windows users.  For comparison, that's more Windows users than there are automobiles on roads.  And they expect Windows to double that userbase to 2 billion by 2015.

And actually, for those non-english speakers you like me to think about, Windows has official support for 126 languages with 178 dialects (and growing).

Depands what gen, sure some speak but many don't.  Many just move into their own community and never found the need to learn english.

Well what does active user mean. So if i have 3 users made on my one computer they count it as 3 even though its all me.  I cant even count how many computers i owned, i guess each one could be counted to bolster their pr release.

Read up on poverty dude majority in the world are worried about food and water, not computers.

It's a progression thing...was the beachhead, and now Xbox 360 is the securing of the beach to set-up for the final phase off pacifying the entire gaming world...muah...M$ evil plans for world domination, but with strong area of resistance like VGC will tru-believers, the other consoles will do okay.

I'm not sure how methods were accounted for but they stressed active userbase.  I'm pretty sure they went through a billion Windows licenses back in the 1990s if that's what you're getting at.  I don't think this is like the PSN figures Sony likes to give out. ;)

And lol, we're moving into poverty now?  Yes, I'm sure the third world nations and emerging markets are just loaded with Walkmans, PlayStations and Bravias. ;)

Microsoft and the Gates Foundation is actually the largest non-governmental , non-religon, charity and aid based donator in the world.  They're probably more well known than Sony in these places...

Another thing about the "next generation" for gamers...it's going to consist of ALOT of kids no linked ot the past...I'm looking at kids who were 4-5 years old when the 360 launched...they are wrapped in those old perceptions about what was the it gaming console from 2 generations ago. They are the ones beggin mommy and daddy for the hot new console, and come NEXT generation, the winner will be the company that can port the tie-ins from last generation to this generation...

i see. (if you don't want a history lesson skip the wall of text below)

well Sony LCD was popular at some time, Sony Walkman is no way a failure , if you would known it was the grandaddy of Portable Players , Sony Erricson is no way a failure its still going, SCE is the biggest first party video game company and they're been (along with Nintendo , Activsion , Atari, EA ...ect)  a huge publisher of video games, PS2 is the most sold video game console , and it was the reason the industry have more "M" rated games, and that other people would not see video games as "child's toy"

as for PS3 and PSP.

PS3 had a crappy launch (so did the PS2 and PS1 btw) , but it is doing great now along with Xbox and diffenetally have more Third Party support than the Wii.

PSP is the most successful portable gaming device that isn't made by Nintendo.

Its a failure because people don't buy walkman anymore they buy iPod or something else from Apple way before they even think of a walkman product. People don't talk about IBM when they were the mack daddy of computers for a while like they are still the mack daddy today. I doubt people even call it IBM compatible. But yes I know my history.

Being bigger doesn't make people better. Isn't Nintendo still worth more than Sony inspite the extreme difference in assets? Also Sony Erricson and pretty much every other Sony division has been making losses for a while now. Being the biggest doesn't make Sony the best, they haven't got any 20M selling games have they? They haven't made a new I.P which has sold more than 10M units since the PS1 days.

The PS3 is doing poorly, don't spin it. Compared to the PS2 and the Wii its far behind and its lost a lot of money, more than they will likely ever make back. Financially they are in the toilet, the only spinning is them spinning round and round when you flush.

Oh and the iTouch/iPhone is far more successful in terms of profit, revenue and future prospects. I guess that makes the PSP third.

I actually thought you got some smarts but you have proven other wise.

My point is that most people cant even affored food, yet windows has 1billion people using lol ok.  Even in the poorest nations there are tvs, and have been for decades.  Tv penetration might be a bit higher through out the world then computers and Windows don't you think.  And SOny been making them for 50 years.

but whatever.
