Better? I think so. Far better? Goodness, no. FFXII was an amazing game.

Finally someone knows what they are talking about, pearljammer, take a bow

No, just no. FFXII had dry characters and an almost non-existent storyline.

oh, my bad.  I forgot how awesome Hope is in FF XIII, makes Vaun look like a stud!

Yeah, Hope is a great character. He actually has a purpose in the storyline. Also, who is Vaun?

Vaun was the main character that had no reason to be there, best way to sum him up and then Penelo had even less reason to be there.

Huh? I don't remember a "Vaan" being in FFXII. Wasn't Asch the main character? And who is Penelo?

Come on now

thats just an insult to FF12

The character weren't "that" boring......lol I refuse to believe you forgot some of the main cast o FF12

unless this is a joke....

I may try to play FFXII again one day as I only got up to some point where I returned from some place of an old king or something and returned to this mountain area where some old dude was killed.

It's been so long since I played that game.

At what point does it's story and/or character become interesting?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

anyone who thinks Hope is anything but a turd  and a waste of time must be on the SE payroll

seriously? seriously? Hope is a brilliant character, has a back story, has emotions, and what happens to him actually effects him, even if you dont like him you cant say he isnt a good character, possibly the best but then there is Sazh who is just as good aswel, Vanille however is... well at the moment i dont know why she is there really apart from getting dragged along with Hope, but apart from that she is a good character, infact they are all brilliant characters.

unfortunately never, but there is a really really good scene near the end of the game when they launch the assault on the enemy fleet. The quality in the scene is amazing for PS2.

Why do so many people dislike Vanille by the way? I think her character is fine, as well as Hope's.

Was a child who watched his mother die supposed to have
a Kratos' style attitude and be all bad ass? He is a kid. His character makes sense.

Thats a BIG spoiler euphoria

anyway I agree with you on hope

{spoilers up to chapter 3 below)

seriously he saw his mother die, got turned into a l'cie (which he saw as monsters since his childhood), he got turned into one cus some moody cow who he had never met decided to attack a fal'cie with a sword....ermm if he did anything but whine I would be shocked.....

Put on top of that the fact that if he doesn't complete his focus he will turn into a monster. His character makes completely sense.

To top it off he's ONLY 14 Years Old.

If I was in his position I dunno, I would either be crying non stop or I would have suicided or simply had a nervous brakdown

he's shown some great strength imo.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

The characters NEVER really become interesting, except for balthier and a certain plot element that takes place.

In terms of story.....it just never really picks up pace big time....and imo completely falls apart towards the end (as do most FF stories lol)

Near the end you do go to some cool places though.....I'm trying to be as less spoilerific as possible just in case you wanna try it again.

But the ending FMV & song are great, definetely one of the best FF endings, 3rd behind FF6 & FF10.

But Go & play it again....cus so many critics can't be wrong can they?

No, I take back what I said. I would actually be like Lightning and end humanity but killing Eden. GOD Lightning is awesome.

Well, I can't give a clear assesment yet, since I'm barely even at half point in FFXIII.

But FFXII is my second favourite FF of al time, just right there with FF6 for my favourite of all time, so it has a lot to live up to in order to be better than FFXII, at least for me ;)

lol well he has his heart in the right place

Chapter 5 & 7 spoilers:

I love his interactions with lightning, to lightning I think he's a bit like a little brother....she probably feels more fond of him cus she just "lost" her little sister, serah.

Hope is a very important person as he brings about a change in lightnings attitude.....she goes from being a moody badass to a cool badass

Really? past FFX? wow that i hope for as i played about 300 hours on FFX and counting! so if FFXIII ends up being my next FFX i will be oh so happy :D yeah i agree its better than all the PS FFs, and yeah the music is better than FFXII even though it wasnt done by Nobuo Uematsu which intrigues me, have they got a composer better than Uematsu?... has hell frozen over?

Masashi Hamauzu is the person who helped Uematsu make the FF10 soundtrack

some of the tracks he made for FFX are amazing

But with FFXIII he shows amazing talent, I wouldn't say the soundtrack in FF13 is better than the PS1 FF soundtrack though, probably better than FF8 though.

I think FFXIII should at the least tie with FFX

The things FF13 has over FF10 are battle system, characters & story.

But on the other hand FF10 has towns (I must admit I miss them a bit), better music & better villains

but hey I'm still only on chapter 10, I say only as some people claim Chapter 11 is the "half way" point.

I'm on chapter 11 and the game really opens up once you reach pulse. I must have explored and did some hunting missions for about 4 hours before continuing with the story and I have only done the class D missions.

By the way, don't try to fight the Brontosaurus creature thingy, especially the big one! The battle was over before I even hit his front-left leg!

Suprisingly it's a pretty lengthy game which is shocking considering the first two discs (Xbox 360 version)/just after aquiring Fang's summon (Ps3 folk) is just a linear corridor.

Note: I don't consider any of the above a spoiler, it's obvious Fang will aquire a summon and it's even more obvious that you will visit Pulse at somepoint.
