Won't happen. Really guys, I'm a x360 fan and your predictions are making all of us look bad. I can give you a nice list of a bunch of games that didn't outsell the game they followed on the PS2 even though install base was doubled.

MGS2 was released when there was 15.5m PS2 install base and sold 5.58m copies. MSG3 (the prequel like Reach will be) had a 73.5m PS2 install base and only sold 4m copies.

Lemme put it this way... a friend of mine and I are not that interested in getting Halo Reach. YOU'RE TELLING ME that you are going to find 2 people that DIDN'T buy Halo 3 that are going to go buy Halo Reach???

Come on, lets get real. It's a prequel!

Well, if you wanna get technical. I have Halo 3 used, so when I buy Halo: Reach first day, I will be included in those figures whereas I'm not in Halo 3's. Also, Halo 2 > Halo 1. Just because Microsoft has a lot of Halo games does not mean everyone who could possibly be interested in Halo has already bought them.

Likewise I will likely buy Halo Reach used. I'm not hyped on Halo Reach like I was on Halo 3. Halo 3 was the shit..."Finish the Fight!". Halo Reach is....meh...that book I read about Reach that doesn't include Master Chief and I already know the outcome of. Trust me, there are plenty of people like me that aren't hyped for Reach.

And i'm pretty sure it's a safe to say that people who purchased Halo 3 used aren't going to be in long lines on launch day for Reach.

Just for the record you do realize this is the Story of Noble Team and not Blue Team correct?  In other words this game has litteraly nothing to do with the book other than it takes place during the Fall of Reach.  We know what happened to John, Kelly, Linda and the rest but we have no idea what happened to Noble 6, Carter, Jorge and the rest of Team Noble.  This story is complely new and untold.

saying I have a fear that HALO will end up being big, is attacking me no?

No leo, it's just an observation, you seem very fearful of Reach for whatever reason .. I don't know why that is.

Im not fearful, so that answers your question.

Im basing it off observation.. my FRIENDS 360 gamers (I know this is a minority) do not care about HALO anymore, they are HUGE call of duty fans. What MY FEAR is (ofcourse this is being completely negative) that COD has stolen a portion of the HALO fanbase, and some people will not get HALO REACH. That is my only fear.. if anything, look at what happened with R1 and R2..

Then again looking at the positives, the 360 does have a LARGER install base, there seems to be alot of HALO 3 players on XBL (that shows the game is still active, and people haven't moved on, so that means right there it has a huge fanbase to support), and its built on being a much better game than HALO 3 (based on what bungie has shown). But here's what I think may either do well for the game, or hurt it, it may be a good thing it isnt HALO 4 because COD fans wont think (oh another halo, the 3rd one was good, but COD4 was better) , maybe they will look at HALO REACH is a fresh experience, since that is what bungie's intention seems to be.

So there are tons of positives, that allow for the game to sell numbers well above that of HALO 3's, or at the very list similar sales.

But there are also negatives that go against it (Not a full fledged sequel, COD being the bigger shooter now on 360, possibilty that COD stole a chung of halo's fanbase), but even then, I think it all depends on how microsoft markets the game to the general consumer.

actually leo-j..........that was a very solid post.  While I'm not entirely sure that I agree with your belief that Reach wont be as big as Halo 3 you did do a great job of explaining your reasoning.  All in all well said.

All bullshit aside, I don't care what it sells, all I know is it'll have a themed Halo Reach 360 Bundle, with 250GB HDD and two controllers. I'm sold!

Don't ask me how I know that. Just consider it a hunch!

that hunch is a certainty....

Perhaps some of you will fall prey to those steals like me! I know it sounds crazy, but themed bundles always get my money!

I would love a themed 360, but they always seem so ugly Halo 3 and Resident Evil 5 for example.

HALO REACH is not a sequel.. its not HALO 4, you guys are thinking it is HALO 4 and will topple HALO 3 sales.

Its almost impossible, HALO 3 has sold well over 10 million copies, HALO ODST is an expansion to the HALO 3 experience, while HALO REACH is a prequel to the original HALO, MGS3 didn't do it, so why would HALO REACH? Prequels tend to sell LESS THAN HALF the orignal game.

classic line...  yeah, cos prequels are very common arent they...   wth are you talking about?

give me 4 examples of major (i mean really major) franchises that have had prequels that have sold less... you know, just to evidence "tend"

Kingdom hearts

Resident evil

Metal gear solid

Final fantasy

Thats your evidence?  lol. ok.  Many reasons why thats utterly irrelevant... but the main one is... we are talking about a multiplayer FPS.

Anyway im done talking to you about it.  I've learned debating  with you is never profitable and I dont want to upset your delicate sensibilities again

My last post before this one sums up your stance here perfectly.

kowenicki, i have a lot of respect for you...but really? You ask for an example of prequels that didn't outsell the game they followed and once you get a list of them your best response is "we are talking about a mutliplayer FPS"? Do historical sales trends of prequels not apply if a game is a mutliplayer FPS?

MSG3 was a solid example, yes we're playing with bigger numbers because it's a FPS and Halo, but still, shit like that just doesn't happen. In fact, are there any prequels that outsold the last game they followed??

tbh my main point was that prequels arent a common phenomenon.

but yes I do think that the huge on-line following makes a difference.

That's true but prequels outselling the last game they followed (regardless of install base as history as shown us) is an unheard of phenomenon.

Oh don't worry, one day you'll go over to a friend that has ODST and play the beta a bit, and when you do you'll realize that Reach will have the definitive MP ever to grace any game.  And that the campaign itself will be absurdly amazing.

Just a note: the majority of Halo players buy Halo's for the MP, not the single player.

I have never been a true Halo fan, I could take or leave Halo 3, never even played multiplayer ( I know I deserve to be shot)

Reach has me massively hyped, like Halo 2.

Now of course I'm only one person, but thats for all the other folks talking about their friend's not excited for it.

Like Yojohn said, wait for the buzz to really start, they'll be sucked in.

The single player experience is one of the better experiences in any FPS period..

so I'd hope people atleast consider the Single player experience.

I wonder what color a Reach 360 would be.

A nice dark blue with Reach emblems on it would be awesome.

Halo Reach is not going to sale better then MW2 that set records, and is on both PS3 and 360, that is delusional . I like Halo a lot, its one of my fav, but people are talking crazy talk.

Bioshock 1 was proof that single player FPS could be amazing. Halo Reach will still be about multi player, thats the main seller of Halo.

Have people forgotten the system link days already? You know how many people went to each others homes to play system link Halo 1 before Halo 2 was out? PEOPLE LOOKED FORWARD TO HALO 2 SIMPLY ON THE FACT YOU COULD GO ONLINE TO PLAY OTHERS!

Halo was ALL about the multiplayer. It just so happened the single player campaign of Halo 1 was very solid.

No one is going to change my opinion about that.

It's just that simple.
