Forums - Gaming - I come not to praise Dante's Inferno, but to bury it.

Actually, in God of War, you HOLD R2 to open chests.

That is in God of War 3?  I remember mashing the R2 button to do open.

Unless they've changed it in the collection, it's hold even in the original.

You could be right with the original, though.

I played Modern Warfare 2 and it felt like a rip off of COD4.

Dante's Inferno is the sequel to God of War?

Damn you know WHAT?This isnt god of war forget god of war or any other game while playing a game this thread is like saying Badcompany 2 compied MW2 because you point and shoot...really?damn the hate needs to stop

The point is that EA had Dante's Inferno emulate the parts that were weak in God of War, because God of War didn't.  Their goal was to create a God of War knockoff.  Bad Company 2, which I own, can be said to be trying to do the same to FPS.  BUT, Bad Company 2 offers really good destructable environments, and offers its own flavor.  You can say that about Dante's Inferno?  Really?

And it isn't like God of War is the pinacle of perfection either.  It wasn't a perfect design.  It was really good, and was well done, but had flaws, and less than ideal ways of doing things that could be improved upon.  How about designers set out to design their own games in a GENRE, and borrow from other games?  That is what this is about.  God of War is NOT a genre.  It is a GAME in the genre of hack and slash with QTE.

When you blatently try to copy something, you end up doing things that make NO sense in your game context, because the changes you made were done just to not get sued by the game makers of the company you did.  Can you seriously say repeatedly mashing the B button to get life/manna out of a fountain made sense and was entertaining?  Can you?  Would you complain if God of War 3 gets rid of this when you go up to a chest to open it?

ummm.... reading your posts, I'm starting to think Dante's is pretty sad because, they removed the smashing to open chests in God of War 2, you just hold R1 and it just opens after a few seconds(has something to do with the game play mechanics to wait a few seconds, risk and reward kind of a thing when in a jam.) The combat was also much better in God of War 2 compared to God of War towards the end because during GoW1, once you upgrade your weapon fully, all you do is pretty much square, then hold square, through out the rest of the game while releasing a shit load of spirits to kill everything, which was just cheap, though the Quake had a similar effect in GoW2 but at least you had to mash circle to get the full effect and not free like Spirit of Hades.

I hadn't played it in awhile, so I could be wrong.  But, when I ran into the fountain and saw that, I did a big OH NO! and thought of God of War.  Well, this actually also upsets me.  WHY would anyone think repeatedly mashing a button to get life/manna from something is a good idea?  So, they changed it over God of War... for the worse?

You had to mash R2 in Gow. I just played Collection recently, unless my brain is fried from allergies.

You open a chest by holding R2.

You open a door, however (the lift ones, which aren't very common in GoW anyway) by mashing R2. That really sucks, especially with an analog trigger. I think it changed to O in God of War II.

That's prolly it, the opening door with mashing R2 was one of the most retarded video game design I've witnessed when I first had to do it. In that case, Dante's just has retarded game play elements. They changed the door opening in 2 to that you press R1, then repeatly hit O instead, and they didn't just let the door open due to puzzle or timing reasons, but at least it was much better with O.

Ok, I will admit I may have got a few things wrong about God of War, but Dante's Inferno doesn't feel like they wanted to do a game based on the Divine Comedy, but EA wanted to make a God of War rip-off they couldn't get sued making.  It is one thing to say, "Wow, I think Devil May Cry is cool, and I think a game based on Greek Mythology borrowing from it would be cool".  It is an entirely other one to have a mentality that the 360 needs God of War, so you decide to do a God of War game but put it in the world of the Divine Comedy.   Things like this infuriate me.
