Forums - Sales - Playstation Move Is Going To Be Expensive

Ok…so Sony has really let the cat out of the bag on all their Move info. One piece on info they bestowed on us is that the Move is going to have a starter bundle that will have One Playstation Eye and One Move (which is the wand with the ball on the end). So that sort of got me thinking how much would it cost to get a complete move experience for all 4 players? Gizmodo did some mental math and broke this down using logical pricing. Here is what they came up with.

Most users who buy the Move day 1 are probably already going to have a PS3. So lets say the get the Starter Bundle which will be “under 100 dollars” according to Sony. The Playstation Eye is $40 and if you think about the pricing of the wii-mote which is $40, it would be reasonable to say that the Move Wand would be 50$. So that would probably make the starter kit 80 dollars, knocking off $10 so its cheaper to buy the kit instead of going separate. In order to get the full Move experience each player needs 2 Move Wands and 1 Sub Controller ( its the nun-chuck thing). Some games do require movement in both hands and the sub controller doesn’t have motion, thus the reason you need 2 Move Wands. So, you bought the starter kit for $80, then you go and buy another Move wand for $50 and a sub controller for $30 (the sub controller doesn’t have the motion but it is wireless which will drive up cost a bit). So thats $80 more to complete your first player. Which brings your grand total to $160 spent on the first player.

Now your not just going to want to play alone right? So you want to complete another player. Your not going to buy another starter kit because you don’t need another Playstation Eye. So you have to buy this player separate. So at our prices if you buy 2 Move Wands and 1 Sub Controller thats another 130$. So with these numbers it will be $130 for each player after the first. Which will bring the price of the Move to $550!!!

For shits and giggles lets say the Move wand is actually $40 and the Sub Controller is $20 (which is generous pricing for both), That would make the bundle $70 and the price per player 100. The cost then for 4 complete players would still be $430!!!

For a comparison the cost for 4 complete players on the Wii (including Motion Plus) is $230.

Now…the whole reason for the motion controller is to help move more PS3’s to new customers. So if you buy a PS3, the Move, and complete all 4 players with the first pricing estimate it would be a grand total of $850 dollars. With the second estimate it would be $730 Dollars.

For Comparison the Wii and 4 complete players is $430 Dollars.

If Project Natal is going to be under $100 dollars like Microsoft has been saying that puts the costs for it for 4 complete players at…um…$100 dollars. Only because Natal recognizes 4 players with one camera and there are no additional peripherals to buy. So that means you could buy a Xbox Elite for $300 dollars, Natal for $100, and that brings the total price to $400 dollars. http://resumeplay.net/2010/03/playstation-move-is-going-to-be-expensive/             Once again, these are all educated guesses and seem to be pretty level headed. Tell us what you think!

I love to assume prices of stuff we have no info on too! (this is to controller and nunchuck prices)

Former something....

I don't see the Move being a big success. Its just too similar to the Wii so they've already got big competition.

The Natal on the otherhand is completely different technology and will be the cheapest for multiplayer.

By the way, you could also argue that the Xbox 360 hard drive isn't necessary for most games. So the majority of gamers that don't bother to go online can just buy a $200 Xbox 360 Arcade and Natal.

I love how the Sub controller has less no motion tech and comes out more expensive than a nunchuk.

I also love how Sony stuff is automatically $10 more than the competition.

I love speculation.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Does each Move controller require an Eyetoy?

that was just a horrible article to read lol. the starter kid comes with a wand, camera, and im positive a sub-controller, game and sony said there will be other type of starter kits. all that for maybe 80-100$ then keep in mind sony gave a hint that the wands might come standard along with the dual shock inside the box (new ps3's). i honestly dont think it'll be expensive

I'll give you my PS3 for that time machine. Whadda' ya say?

4 ≈ One

Why cant you just borrow the two Move's from the first guy, why do both need two kits of their own? I dont think we've seen a game that requires 4 motion controllers at once?? Two is just fine. No?

You must

Everyone must, Im already sick of these "move is too expensive" threads, its all BS.

PSeye (40) move (40) game (19.95) = 99.95

move + chuck probably* = 55 or 59.95 same as sixaxis/DS3 why all the fucking crying?

Because if you want to play a hockey game with your firends on the same team, you need six controllers for all your friends. And if you want to play versus some other friends you need an additional six controllers, making it a total of 12. Unless it requires dual motion controllers, then its 24 sets. Its Expensive!!!!
