"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.
Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi
I get that but here's everyone assuming that it's gonna cost an arm and a leg as well as a down payment on a planet just because it's a Sony product, too many "money majors" wannabee on this site, so much so they get on my nerves, such pretentious crap. Everyone here seems to be a guru when it comes to money, the big three should just fire all their staff and hire everyone from here ¬_¬.

This my friend is what I call wishful thinking. I am betting you right now that there will be $299 bundle with Move, anyone wants that bet. E |
If by wishful thinking you mean "logical thinking," you'd be correct. I might actually get a PS3 with this motion controller if Sony can prove to me they are actually serious about supporting it and make some great games that use it well. I'm not "wishing" anything. If Sony proves they are serious about motion control and make games that appeal to me, they will get my support. If not, I will stick exclusively to the Wii, it's as simple as that.
All I am saying is there is a reason add ons often fail. They limit the potential userbase, and create a barrier for those who want it but DON'T own the console by adding more to the price. Consumers who want motion controls are going to be faced with a (probaly) $400 PS3 with motion, or a Wii for half the price. So are essentially back to where we started in the gen, where you could get a Wii for half the price of a PS3. The goal of Sony should be to make the PS3 cheaper, not tack on more expensive hardware. They are fracturing their userbase further which they've already done by the endless PS3 skus.
I guess its possible Sony could manage a $300 bundle by the end of the year, but this would be under the assumption that sony would have to drop the price of the PS3 yet again, which I doubt they can afford to do as they've already docked 50% off the value of the console in less than 3 years. Or if they don't drop the price of the PS3, you are basically saying they are willing to give the add on away for free, but why the hell would they do that if they sold it for $99 separately?

This is so that kids or people that want a PS3 can say their parents or significant others who want a wii "hey, check this out i can get my ps3 and you get your wii for only $100 with better graphics, a blu ray player and the same games" The thing hindering it is most definately not the price but the fact early word of mouth has been negative pretty much all around and getting that out of peoples heads as being "laggy" if they fix it is the biggest issue. |
Doesn't have Wii Fit!
Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?
I think there will be a range of starter kit bundles depending on the bundled game. If you buy that fighter game then the starter kit will be pointless without coming with 2 wands, because 2 wands are essential for that game, same with sport's champ because the archery game in it requires 2 wands.
If you buy the starter kit with SOCOM4 bundled then the companion controller + wand will be essential, because without the companion controller you can't play SOCOM4 using the PS Move settings; unless of course, and if you're cheap like me, the DS3 can be used in place of the companion controller, which if that's an option is makes it more affordable.
If you're buying that Party game, or the Eyepet, then one wand is all that's needed.
But overall, I agree, price is the major obstacle here. Because the basic Wii is much cheaper than the basic PS3 buying the extra peripherals feels affordable. Whereas forking out for peripherals on top of a PS3 is stretching people's wallets a bit too far. Natal being controllerless has major advantages here, but I have my doubts that there will never be any other perhipheral devices for it. I think we'll see them being introduced at some point.
PS3 needs to come with 1xWand 1XEye & 1XDS3 as pack in items for all consoles sold and be at the current retail price. Then, depending on what game is bundled with the PS3, add the companion controller or another wand.
The right bundling is going to be essential. Buying each additional wand/companion as a separate item is going to cost big time. So there needs to be plenty of bundling with software and HW to make gettinng set up with the Move seem like less of a drain on your pocket before you even have a decent number of games to realise it's benefits.

ROFL you do know the sensor bar has a range, right?? Ok yes i know the range may be more limited with the PsEye and Natal, but lets not ignore Wii's shortcomings as well

Yes, that's always an option. There is a footnote in Sony's official note, saying that a DS3 or Sixxaxis can always replace a subcontroller.
