Forums - General - It's Official: Nolan Rebooting Superman

This sets us up nicely for a Batman vs. Superman movie. Those stories are always fun.

"The worst part about these reviews is they are [subjective]--and their scores often depend on how drunk you got the media at a Street Fighter event."  — Mona Hamilton, Capcom Senior VP of Marketing

Id rather he directs a more arthouse production ala memento but hey, I'm sure I'll enjoy his version of superman.

Though superman is the most boring superhero ever invented imo

You can't reboot something like Superman, especially when the good movies were made back in the 70s, his comic book history is a joke and messed up. He's too powerful, underhanded and shady to do anything with. The Superman Returns movie wasn't (as) successful (as Batman) not only because it wasn't good but because no one was interested and just renaming after Superman's tag line won't help either.

Superman is a washed up character from 60 years ago with powers that have been heightened to stupid levels then reduced again with ideals that have been processed into the minds of kids.

..

I don't like Superman.

Hmm, pie.

I'm not a fan of superman either... but underhanded and shady?  Superman is the exact opposite, that's why so many people hate him.  He's the quientasential "I do the right thing always, and it always turns out right guy" whos better then you at everything.  I mean there is a reason his biggest nickname is "The Big Blue Boyscout".

Don't get me wrong, I don't like him for that reason too. His brand of "I have powers so I have to" thing is getting old. His right thing is morally wrong on a lot of occasions because he thinks it's the right thing to do, based on his powers not what actually is the right thing. This has been shown in many stories because of his level of power.

But tell me, is writing for a newspaper about yourself and publishing your work under a different name and then praising yourself the right thing? Or it is amazing biased?

Only 2 heroes who have any respect from me who truely do the morally right things are Spider-man and Cap A.

Captain America I get...

But Spiderman made a deal with the devil... and I'm not being figurative here... he literally made a deal with the devil.

However yeah, it is easy for Superman to always do the right thing because he's superman, unlike say Captain America who has to stand up to people who can pretty much destroy him millions of times over.

It's always funny to see Cap still put up a fight after all the avengers are down vs a being with unbelievable cosmic power.  He'd fight Galactus 1 on 1 just to make a point.

Dunno how this would work. Batman was a success because of how real he made the character (and really the entire story) feel. He made the character connect with people. Any superhero that has actual superpowers would have to be tackled from a different approach. Superman in particular is hardly a regular guy going over and above the call of duty, like Batman and Ironman.

I also find Superman to be an incredibly boring character. The guy is invincible and can fly at damn near the speed of light. To do anything less than save the world here and there with such capabilities would just make him a douchebag. :P

I know of One More Day and it's crappiness. That story was odd and out of character. Aunt May has 'died' before. If I blame anyone that is on Joey Q and his input into it. He never did like the marriage between Peter and Mary unlike real fans. But what do you expect from a guy very up himself.

Same goes for Spider-man, how many times has he faced villians whose powers dwarf him only to do it anyway.

That's why he's Cap and not some almighty god character with changing characteristics.

Hmm, pie.

Luthor is too overdone. I'm pulling for Brainiac. Nolan went with Ra's in Batman Begins and I hope he uses another underutilized villain for Superman.

The thing with braniac is... he's cool in powers... boring in execution.  He wants to assimilate all knowledge of the planet, then destroy it... and he's a computer.  You'd need him working with someone at the very least.

Which is largely the problem with most superman villians.  They don't do the kind of plotting you need to get you through the movie BEFORE the big fight scene.

Darkseid maybe for example.

Would Darkseid work in a movie context though? Like Thanos, I cannot see him working well in movies without changes in character or a major change is ideal.

Now Lex with creation of Doomsday would maybe suit a movie better.

Hmm, pie.

People who think that Superman is over-powered or that there's nothing you can do with him don't read Superman's comics.

Anyhoo, my dream Superman movie would have Doomsday's origin in it, too. The two would meet in the epic confrontation at the end. No death of Superman, though.
