So Genesis re-releases are automatically 20/40? That's how they should be rated by your and severance's logic. Retro reviews are to be done by the same standards as one would do them back in the day when the games originally came out. |
There is a huge difference in reviewing between 30+ classic genesis game on one disc for 29.99 and 2 of the best action games from last gen.
The genesis collection games represent the pinacle of those types of games (for the most part) but god of war games are still current when it comes to the evolution of that genre.
If you give god of war 1/2 more than what they got from Famitsu, what do you give God of War 3 which is clearly better in every way? 10/10?

reviewing God of War Collection isn't a retro review though, this is a rerelease on a different console, the graphics have to be compared to the standards of today otherwise the presentation would have to be a 10 since they redid them for the current generation and they pass by anything that the PS2 could have done.

You don't evaluate retro titles based on presentation. That's all. Besides, the Saturn outdid "this type of games" (SHMUPs, 2D fighters, RPG's) anyway, the only genre the Saturn isn't better in than the Genesis is perhaps... 2D platformers.
As for GoW III, you will not like my answer... :P

I respectfully disagree. Sonic's Ultimate Genesis collection outdoes the genesis (since the games are 720p upscaled, also the only difference between GoWC PS3 and PS2), but that doesn't make Golden Axe comparable to Uncharted 2.

You can't not review presentation on God of war 1 and 2 since thats the aspect that put it in the same category as Devil may cry and Ninja Gaiden Black. If you take that away, you have a good but shallow hack and slash with dated static camera and really bad platforming and puzzles.
As far as Saturn...if a Saturn collection comes out with 30 games for 30 bucks...it will be the greatest collection of all time...until the dreamcast collection that is :)

Shallow? Not really. Play it on Titan difficulty, and you'll see what I mean.
Ah, and Saturn > Dreamcast.
Shallow my ass....Fully upgraded blades can pull of combos that would make Dante and Ryu extremely proud.
