Forums - Sales - Do you expect the 360 to beat the PS3 again in February NPD?

he is saying the DS is selling better than the 360 despite the 360 being a console with far more value, and its price being at DS LEVEL in most regions outside of the U.S. He also sees it as a fair comparison since the 360 is almost as cheap as the DS, while the ps3 is significantly more costly

With the PS3 shortages, the 360 is definitely going to come out on top.

When you look at sales you should look World Wide, because that is the total amount of sales for a console, PS3 is ahead of 360 by quit a bit, I know just looking at USA numbers may make some feel better but its not total sales. The only number that matters is World Wide , the total amount these consoles are Selling .

I said nothing about global numbers, the DS sales are impressive enough to not require any additional spin. 16m 360s vs. whatever the DS sold in the same regions.

You can try to find holes in my argument all you want, but fact is, the 360's sales outside of America are poor.

By what standard? In comparison to the Wii and the PS2, yeah, but just who was expecting 360 to be a breakout success or even the market leader? Viewed in the context of Microsoft's goals, to eat into the Playstation marketshare whatever the cost and to ensure cross platform PC-360 development, the 360 has done pretty well for itself.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

maybe sony aint supplying cause they want to save alot of ps3's for march so they can cope with the demand for the month. i mean FFXIII and God Of War 3 releasing in the same month!

We are already in the second week of March and FFXIII is out tomorrow. Whatever Sony is planning they better move fast.

More likely imo (due to pricepoints and exchange rates) they're just taking the largest loss per unit in America, and have since been more "stingy" with supply allocation until volumes decrease costs sufficiently.  Are Japan and Europe seeing similar mass shortages?

I'd say it's probably the same deal with Nintendo and Wii, only replace "largest loss" with "smallest profit".

Short term that makes sense, but they're still going into one of their best months since launch with few units to go around.  God of War is really only popular in North America, and it's Sony's most popular franchise in the region after Gran Turismo.  This is their last chance to really move units via software aside from Gran Turismo, and I doubt they'd pass up the opportunity to get more consoles into people's homes just to save a few bucks in the short term.

And they seem to have plenty of spare stock to go around (at least in Japan), which could be making its way to North America. Stock costs the same to manufacture no matter what, so might as well make some revenue by selling them in North Amerca rather them having them sit on a shelf elsewhere.

And what about Final Fantasy?  Let's say somebody finally decides to pick up a ps3 for Final Fantasy.  They look around for awhile and have no luck in finding one, so they go grab a 360 bundle instead.

It just seems like a missed opportunity all around.
