Aww man. That's sad. And I just bought LKS last week, too! Too little too late, I guess. I wonder what'll become of the Last Window now? I hope we'll still get it here in the West, since it's already out in Japan...

The last thing I heard was thet it was planned for a European release, but I have no idea if CING's bankruptcy would affect Nintendo's localization.

Yeah, I heard it was supposed to come to Europe in August or something... Seeing how it's published by Nintendo, I assume it'd be somewhat likely if it would still come out. Then again, where exactly would the money made off the game go, if the developer doesn't exist anymore?

I suppose we'll have to wait and see, there's bound to be some official statement sooner or later.

Yeah there are rumors that it's seeing a European release since Nintendo submitted an application to trademark "Last Window" in Europe.

The DS is region-free so no worries if it only gets localized for Europe.

But choosing to localize Another Code: R for Europe only when the Wii is region-locked is totally not cool. (There are homebrew tools for the Wii that allow for PAL to NTSC and vice versa patching but obviously you'll need to mod your Wii to do that). Region-locking has it's purpose when games are released in all regions (NTSC-U, NTSC-J and PAL) but otherwise, they do nothing but piss off gamers (especially European gamers. Though this is one of the cases where North Americans are getting the shaft instead.)

The rights to the game will probably be sold off to help pay off their debt as part of the bankruptcy process.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Bummer. Nintendo should ( but probably won't ) buy them.

Sometimes, this may depend on whether or not CING wants to be bought. Some studios like to remain independent or would rather be purchased by a third party publisher where they do not have to be beholded to a paticular platform. More importantly though, is that if Nintendo did decide to purchase CING would the staff stay? Mr. Iwata stated that they just do not purchase studios. They want to purchase the studio with the agreement that the Staff stays. He stated that the Staff is more important than the Studio.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

Folks

What are the bankruptcy laws in Japan?

In the US, a company can file for bankruptcy to reorganize with protection -- not necessarily to go out of business.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Looks like Wii/DS development isn't as great as some people make it out to be.

Just imagine how much more money they would have lost if they had focused on PsP/PS3.

Probably wouldn't have made as many games.

But we know how Sony like to help the smaller developers on PS systems. So things could have been a bit different...

lol.  Yeah, ask Camelot about how much Sony "likes to help smaller developers". ;)

Guys... I just found NoName...

...

It's not pretty.

Although... I think I'm going to go back and play Little King's Story again... it was a wonderfully refreshing title.
