Forums - Nintendo Discussion - People that claim that Mario Kart Wii doesn't involve skill...

Kart racing games normally just rely on who gets the best power-ups (IE on luck)

Didn't you read this post Rol?

It just proves that you just know where all the good items are.

It also relies a little on luck.

If you're in first with a close lead, reaching the end of the race and you're hit with a bomb, you're screwed.

From first to 4th. It happens to me sooo many times.

I dislike mario kart because it has that system where the farther behind you are, the better items you get, where if you're in first place you get nothing but banana peals and green shells, why don't they make it fair where it's all random no matter what place you're in?

I like racing games where it's nothing but pure racing, so the luck factor is extremely minimal

EDIT: I also dislike how MKWii is just MotorCross, since bikes are clearly better and most of the race is popping wheelies and jump off of corners upwards of 50,000 times

I loved how you could get golden mushrooms in second place in Mario Kart 64 multiplayer, even though you were only a few tenths behind the leader. That was totally fair and didn't make the game a luck lottery like the Wii version where you only get the good stuff when you are way behind.

Don't even get me started on Mario Kart 64.  That game had all kinds of flaws.  There were certain "shortcuts" that were outlawed in my home since they were game breaking.  Also, the lightning could completely ruin a race for someone if you used it during their jump in the motocross level.

Yep. Mario Kart 64's ineptitude was hugely responsible for Diddy Kong Racing's popularity. It was better than Crash Team Racing though.

Sadly, where I live people didn't like DKR because it required way too much skill.

This doesn't surprise me since you told me that the Hulk Hogan show, Thunder In Paradise, is still a massive hit out there.

Well most cart racers require skills, at least the great ones. I only played the game a couple of times so I believe you Still, as somebody whom spent hundreds of hours with CTR, I can tell you that practice helps a LOT in cart racers, and might even beat skils in some instances
