Forums - Gaming - Pushing to and beyond the Limit for the HD Brothers

Theres a saying that has been ging around for years and its the sky is the limit

in your own opinion do the exclusive games for both the PS3 and the 360 have actually push the hardware to its limit or is there still more it can do. personally i see the exclusive for PS3 nad 360 are almost eqully or equally even. however one of the two is coming to its limit where as one still has alot of kick left.

there is room left in both.... as we will see this year. GOW III and Alan Wake looklike setting new standards for them. why should it stop there?

agreed, dont forget UC2, heavy rain and the coming Halo Reach

Longer the gen goes on > the better the games look, that's logical conclusion based on both theory and actual experience.

So if we are in +- middle, there is still a lot to be shown.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

There's still plenty of room to grow for both consoles;

Sony for example recently unlocked a further 70mb of usable RAM for developers and Naughty Dog are probably the only developer to program their engine to ensure every SPU of the cell processor is working at all times. There is still more in that system obviously.

For the XBOX 360, there is probably a similar amount of growth available as most developers thus far have been using Unreal Engine and other non-optimized engines. Alan Wake shows that the 360 is capable of more. Perhaps not as much as the PS3 as it has been out for a longer period and has slightly weaker hardware but the difference isn't that great between them anyway.

Plenty of life for both. Even the Wii could look better and its hardware has basically had 10 years of games development.

Well UC2 did set a bar I agree and it looks like GOWIII may better that..  but Heavy Rain isnt pushing the tech at all imo.  Halo Reach may well set new standards in multiplayer... as Halo games often do.

regarding bout UC2 and GOW3 in terms of resolution UC2 is native 1080p where as GOW3 is 1080p upscaled does it mean GOW3 is weaker than UC2.

But UC2 is native 720P and upscales to 1080P and GOW3 is native 720P and upscales to 1080P

noted i'am at the wrong saying UC2 is 1080p.

GoW 3
Killzone 2
Uncharted 2

There is always room to grow. When the hardware is this complex, you will never reach its full potential, you can always optimize something. At some point, the optimisations you can do just become so small that they're basically irrelevant, and I think we're a long way from seeing that happen.

You could also actually contribute to the thread, instead of using a cookie cutter response..?
