Truth be told, I don't think this game is anything to write home about. Yeah, there are 24 tracks, but there are only 8 themes, so the tracks feel old quickly. Also, the lack of a blue shell makes the game a whole lot less forgiving and 1st place can dominate and not be taken out, making it not as fun for the other 7 players. Plus, the items overall are either weak or dumb.

It's an average game at best. Hard to call it a Mario Kart equivalent.

lol

So skill actually wins? wow, thats rough.

The blue shell was always suppose to keep it a close race, which also keeps it more exciting. While it may be too rough now, it is still an improve over S&SASA. When I played, the ranks were very static. Typically, after the first lap, that would be your possition at the end of the race.

NOTE:I was always in 1st place.

So what if MK is better or not.(blue shell can go to hell BTW) if you like Sega also then this is the answer to Nintendo's version. It's still great fun.

If not a Sega fan then don't get it.

And come on like I said IT HAS RYO FROM SHENMUE! :D but I guess most of you never played that excellent game and waited for years in the dark for him to show up in a game again.

I'm getting it soon as my girlfriend LOVES mario kart.

I understand your first concern. This is much much better than sega superstar tennis.

The second concern is valid. If you have nothing to play now, I suggest pick it up. If you have things on your plate, price will surely drop to 29.99 within a month or two.

All I am saying is that this shouldn't be looked at as a second rate game not worth full retail price...let alone 40 bucks.

I have told myself no new games costing more than $20 until I at least play all the new games in my backlog at least once.

Presently, that backlog is 22 games.  And it does not include used games I have picked up.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I really enjoyed the demo(s) that I played. I want to get this but I haven't decided on what system to buy this for :(. I have, and love, Mario Kart Wii so I'm thinking the Wii is out. I have both HD systems and a DSi so deciding is kinda difficult.

If you have all systems, best for 360 then.  You get Banjo as a bonus. PS3 version has no Bonus and the DS version is very stripped prob not worth it at all.

For Wii only owners I think it's also should be worth it if you love Sega as well as Nintendo.

Look at sales for Sega all star tennis and Sonic gensis collection. All had rediculous slow starts but have sold + 1 million across all platforms.

Unlike those two, this game is not sub par and not a collection of old games...so hopefully it does the same at least.

I'm definitely buying it, but look at the games that have already dropped in 2009 (Bayonetta, Heavy Rain, Mass Effect 2) and look a the games that are coming out in the next few weeks/month (Splinter Cell, Final Fantasy, Super Street Fighter). Plus, DLC for Resident Evil 5 and Assassins Creed and such. I can't keep up! More good games are coming out now than in November/December. Sonic is just a casualty.

I'd hope so for Sega's sake because they did put real effort into this.   Sega All Star Tennis had two huge advantages - it was one of the first Tennis games on Wii and was a pack-in game on 360 so that really boosted sales.

I'd like to think good word of mouth will save this game, but if Smashchu2 is right, the lack of ability to really change the race after the first lap may kill interest for most people.   If people want something totally skilled based and realistic they'll get Forza or GT5 or such.    Maybe MS will make this a pack-in game at some point.
