I don't have the game, but i'm almost 100% that the hard mode is unlocked after you finish the game.
The third character is Bass, and you get him with DLC(200 nintendo points) after 04/05/2010.

I beat all the 8 bosses and playing it on normal mode. I'm at Wily's castle and it's really tough.

If you're a Mega Man fan this is a must buy.

If you're a Mega Man fan this is a must buy.

I have gotten to the end of the 4th Wily stage, but have put off beating it for the moment. The first stage is nasty, but after that they get a lot easier. I agree though with the last point. I may be a bit disappointed with difficulty, but the levels and bosses are amazing. Definitely glad I have a Wii to get it early.
