Forums - Sony Discussion - DO NOT TURN ON YOUR FAT PS3 - date bug is majorly screwing up systems

I have the CECHA01 model which is the first I think and my PS3 is working perfectly. As I was saying earlier, it may have something to do with me fixing the YLOD and unplugging the mobo battery for a few hours which killed the clock.

I signed in to PSN and everything, it definately isn't a psn issue..

Sony is screwed though.. I doubt a firmware could fix this..

Also, JAPANESE GAMERS are going nuts on twitter..

yes it indeed could. How do you think the Bios could be updated? it's updated through a Firmware. this has to do with the Time Clock, the PS3's Time clock is held in the Bios. not online! thus it would even effect offline PS3's. notice even those PS3's with this bug can still surf the internet!

if you could still surf the internet you could still get the update in the firmware to fix the bios issue.

every dev kit with a ps3 has failed..

this is a VERY SERIOUS situation.. if sony cannot fix this by firmware, and if the ps3's do not correct themselves.. I fear the worst will happen, and that is the END OF THE PLAYSTATION 3

(dramtic music starts)

I didn't actually think this would be that serious until I started looking into it, wow!

Let's hope Sony can fix it quick otherwise this could be a costly and devasting situation for them to be in, think of the RROD issue and how much money it cost MS to put right, I fear Sony wouldn't have the money to recall that many systems (if it came to that).

I haven't turned my ps3 phat on for around two weeks so it should be fine, I just won't use it until I know this is sorted, sound like a good plan?

Interesting, hopefully time fixes the problem for those that do not have a connection to the internet in their house.

time  I would bet would not do it..though strange thing's have happened..

I am now almost certain it is indeed a Bios check problem. due to the fact that the Mobo battery on the PS3 keep's the bios state no matter if the PS3 is on/off

thus even the developers debug unit's would indeed be effected by this.

I haven't been reading everything on this.  Is there anything that affects people not trying to connect to PSN?  There are some people who do not have connectivity to the internet in their house, and I am afraid Sony will have to set up a way to send CDs to those people.

if your Bios has no battery to remember it's state you have to RE-ENTER the Setting's, now when you did put it back together what was the first thing it asked,

to enter time and date? and right now you can get on line and access the PSN?

have you logged off and tryied to log back in since you did this?

you could still get the update by PC, but if worse come's to worst they would indeed have to send out a new UPDATE by CD if there is no connection to the internet at all

but yes many people can still surf the internet even with this bug , just no connection to the PSN.

The more I think about this, the more I think it will get solved after midnight GMT. The fact that people in Australia are seeing the date going forward makes me think that the internal clock is not stopped, which probably means that it will advance to a valid date after midnight.

edit- assuming those people have observed the date going forward after switching their PS3s off and on again... otherwise the internal clock might not enter the picture.

When I put it back together and turned it on, that was the first thing it asked for. I entered time and date and started playing as usual. Now, this was a few days ago when I did this. I was logged on around 10 a.m. CST yesterday. I didn't log back on until last night to play COD with my roomate. He also has a 60gb, however, his will not work. Then I started looking online and saw all this news on it.

My PS3 was bought in late 2008. 80GB, no backwards compatibility. Am I safe?
