Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I'm thinking about getting a Wii today, but I'm not 100% sure

I'm not gonna list 10 games that are $50 each because I don't expect you to drop $200 on a console and then $500 on all the big blockbusters.

But these 2 games are about to come out for $6 each and I'm really looking forward to both of them more than anything else.

Nintendo have told us the reason many times. If you are like any other publisher and you make a habit of dropping the price of all of your games, then people will begin to anticipate this, and never buy full price games.

Anyway, 2010 will be the biggest year for the Wii in terms of lineup

This is such BS. Tons of people buy games even though they will obviously drop in price over time (every game except Nintendo games and COD titles, though COD titles actually go on sale). Some people are not willing to pay $50-$60 for every game that comes out, and Nintendo thinks they are exempt from this. Honestly, their strategy is to stop making games that aren't selling well anymore rather than permanently lower the price. It's a bit annoying especially if you bought your Nintendo console well after some of these games came out.

I love how scottie always argues in favor of nintendo, rather than the customer. Maybe he owns stock.

But there is a fair amount of validity to it. I know that I can preorder a Nintendo-made game, and not have to worry about it dropping in price a couple of months down the road. Likewise, I also preorder many small company's games, on the fear that they might not stick around long enough for a price drop. But for other big companies, I'm not worried. I frequently cite cancelling FF13's preorder. Why does that matter? Because I know I can get it cheaper later, should I still decide I want it. I've got enough of a backlog that I don't have to have every new game as it comes out.

^ Which is fine if you're willing to pay $50-60 for every Nintendo game that comes out, even if it's years after release. I personally don't mind if the games I buy drop in price over time. The more affordable and accessible great games are, the better. The fact that someone who bought Galaxy in 2007 is paying the same price as someone today is completely unacceptable in my book. Saying a game is worth $50 is meaningless. Games should simply be cheaper as they get older in most normal situations.

Maybe I was just spoiled by the ps2 last gen where even the most popular and commercially successful games decreased in price or saw greatest hits iterations.

My guess would be that it will take the "player's choice" line for Nintendo to drop their prices, similar to what they did on Gamecube. We'll see how the relaunch of games goes in Japan, and that'll probably determine if they follow up on it overseas.

How and wich games do you own with your first Wii?

I'll admit though, still having to pay $40+ for Twilight Princess or Super Mario Galaxy is wack.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I think it's worth it.

Then again, I would say that about every single console on the market right now...

But I genuinely believe the Wii is worth the money.

Excuse me? I merely repeated the reason Nintendo have provided on dozens of occasions, so that ameratsu can understand why it occurs. I made no judgement about it either way. In what sense am I arguing in favour of Nintendo?

I haven't even decided if I think it's good or not. Obviously, it's annoying because I like paying less money for my games, but it means that Nintendo has the money to develop awesome games they know will make a loss or a very small profit (Fire Emblem anyone). it's a dilly of a pickle

@Mr Kahn: There should be benefits to being a late adopter, such as lower game prices. Nintendo's strategy of keeping game prices the same simply means I buy less older Nintendo games. I'm not paying $50 for any game that's been out for months let alone years and isn't particularly rare/hard to find.

I find it crazy that someone who buys a Wii at the end the generation may have to pay full retail for games that are 4-5 years old. I know why Nintendo does it, but the lack of lower prices for older games means I'm not buying unless I can get it used cheaply.

I dunno, many people don't seem to have a problem spending $60 on HD games, so I don't see the problem in people spending $40-$50 on Wii games. Plus, as some mentioned earlier, many of the Nintendo games still at full price or near it tend to be games with high replay value anyway, Mario Kart Wii, SSBB, NSMB Wii, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit, etc. I noticed the price of a game often tends to correspond with the replay value, and overall quality of the game.

But that is one of the main reasons I tend to buy a lot of Wii 3rd party titles, since so many of them go unsold at full price so they sink in price very quick, at which point I snag them at $20-$30. I think that is what I plan on doing with games coming out soon too like Red Steel 2.

So while many Nintendo games remained priced high, you can also find a ton of great games that have sunk below many HD games in price. So it tends to even out. I just bought NiGHTS for like $4 on amazon, House of the Dead: Overkill for $12, and Dawn of Discovery for $15.

2010 is a perfect time to buy a wii, after 3 years of waiting for a great kick arse lineup its finally happened lol.. my choices would be no more heroes, Mario platformers, Zelda, don't buy Brawl its not that great.. im a wii owners so im gonna tell you the truth of what to buy and what not to buy lol

Madworld is great if you like Violents but there is something missing in that game, replay value

No More Heroes 1+2 - the first no more heroes is an awesome game but i will warn you the open world is boring lucky its fixed in the sequal

Muramasa the demon blade - i haven't brought it yet but knowing rising star games/marvelous entertainment they would of made a great game like they always do, but people needs to notice how talented these guys are

Super Smash Bros Brawl - forget it dude, don't buy it, it gets boring quick the online sucks arse

Tatsonoku vs capcom - dude this game is great the online is great, i reckon its perfect fun game if you like fighters
