Forums - Sony Discussion - Kratos is such a lame character

Kratos isn't lame. He's just the manifestation of ideas that teens and tween associate with masculinity.

I bet if a strong woman who was also pretty but not too pretty and could manipulate men and ascend to power, you'd be saying she's lame right now.

And that's just boring.  Give me something like Gordon Freeman, a giant nerd who I can identify with doing awesome things and that's cool.  Give me something like Kratos constantly doing the same expected brutal characters and it was interesting when he first appeared on the scene, now it's just boring.

LOL

I cant believe what I'm reading
let's just say it is your opinion.
To me : kratos is largely more interesting and disturbed than the "blank" gordon freeman  ...

the problem is really that making a thread to underlign how Kratos is boring/lame just doesnt make any sense in the videogame universe

BTW, sorry to the double post :

I do believe GoW is, perhaps, one of the best porn game ever created
But, I also believe that, for a porn game, Kratos, as a videogame character, is quite good achievement
It is amazing to see how GoW story was deep compared to the average BTall ...

I think Kratos is an awesome badass!

He wouldnt be such a lame character if all he was doing was just bashing heads.....in GOW1 I wouldnt consider him lame as he had a legitimate purpose for what he was doing and you liked him for it.

In GOW2 however , it just felt like a showcase for violence as there was no story holding it together......it felt like torture porn to be honest(ala the SAW movie series)

Kratos is the god of war, THE GOD OF WAR. Why would he be anything but violent? Obviously hes not for everyone and I can definitely understand why some are turned off by his personality, but the guy has one thing on his mind and has since the first game, Vengeance. I guy driven solely by vengeance probably isnt going to sit down and enjoy a nice cup of tea after a long day practicing on his piano, hes probably going to be participating in plenty of killing and some more killing on top of that. Hes the ultimate bad-ass, which is why imo hes anything but boring, and while there are more than a few people that laugh at those hysterically for following this series for its story and characters, its one of the main driving points for me getting this next game, I want to see what happens and how Kratos's story comes to a close. Hes one of my favorite charactes of all time, just because he doesnt run the gamut of emotions doesnt mean hes not interesting, but I also respect everyone is most definitely entitled to their own opinion and as such to each their own.

You must not have payed attention then, there was story holding the game together, its the main reason for me and many other fans to continue pushing on.

It's not for you.

More seriously, though, Kratos is a fulfillment of male power fantasies in the most literal, brutal way that the designers could come up with. If you expect anything else, you will be a sad panda.

Still, his visual design is actually pretty distinctive - compare him to Dante in EA's Dante's Inferno, and the difference in how distinctive their faces are will really jump out. Kratos is just stylized enough that nobody in the world actually looks like him, which is a neat little trick.

Being the fufillment of a male power fantasy doesn't really make you any less of a boring generic character though.

It's the same way with the main character in Prototype.   The game is AMAZING for those days when you just want to mess things up and do things like grab an guy, throw him 30 feet off a building then elbowdrop a tank from 50 feet in the air.

People do give too much credit to the story and character when the power fantasies are largly reflected in gameplay and sticking giant blades through a gods chest... etc.

Basically your opinion on the game shouldn't revolve around Kratos or in general the story as it's just a way to get you to killing.  Though it doesn't really change the fact that neither are that brilliantly done, except for a quick outlet into brutal killing.

80% of the game is you going to irrelevent places to find the sisters of fate.....I hardly consider that a story.

Why are we defending this, who cares if some person think a gaming character  is lame. I see this thread and all I can think of:

I have been smiling since yesterday after seeing the best looking game of this Gen, How LAME!

It provides substance and a nice backdrop to the story, visiting these places tells a story of its own, its not just simply the words that are spoken.
