This gen should last a long time. Next gen games will cost an easy $70-$100. The $60 price point will last until the gen changes, so lets hope it takes awhile.
That said, I think I need a few more raises at work before $70-$100 games are released.

Ok, so Sony doesn't even know when this generation started? Weird...
That's what I understand when they say: "we are in the first 25% to 30% of this generation"
I'm gaming into this gen since 2005.
Anyway, I'm ready for Next-Gen.
I want Microsoft to release their next console ASAP.
Make it 449$, every adult gamer who got a career like me (read: who doesn't mind spending cash in the medium he loves) will buy it. Imagine a minimum of 1080p, 4xAA, 60fps for EVERY GAME!!!
Xbox360 and Playstation3 would look obsolete.
Why I only mention Microsoft? Because Sony cannot afford to ditch PS3 and start again with PS4 at the moment. Microsoft however is in the right spot, even if the Xbox360 has the same power as the PS3, it is lacking in the "Game Disc Data Storage" area.
Microsoft could start next-gen soon. It would blow minds!!!
Wow neoraf your posts are the best pieces of work I've seen on this site

Why so keen for next-gen? are your gaming needs so unfulfilled that you seek fresh novelty? It really comes across that way, to be honest.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

no they know the question's pertained to the PS3's life cycle.
look at the Question's were asked, jack stated that the Playstation 3 just hit it's 3rd year, and in some cases the PS3 was just released into other region's only recently
every year, is a % so 2 to 3 year's is 25% to 30% since they first released the PS3 they were talking about the PS3 remember the PS3 was released in nov of 2006 so as of Nov 2010 will be the PS3's full 4th year . the xbox360 iis not even 5 years yeas old yet because it also was not released until nov of 2005. NOV to NOV is the system's birthday
the over 1.8 billion that microsoft had to spend on repair's of the xbox360 states I bet otherwise,
Microsoft could go ahead and release early but i think they want that money back.

LMAO @ Tretton
"For every year PS3 is in last place we increase the generation by another 16 months"
By 2026 PS3 will be on par with the Wii!

What a cliché

Yes.
5 years with the same tech is long enough.
In 1990, after playing 5 years with my NES, I wanted Super Nintendo to release ASAP. Had to wait until 1991.
After playing 4 years with my Super Nintendo, I couldn't wait anymore for next-gen (In 1995, got the first next-gen system available: the Sega Saturn (the Panasonic 3DO wasn't really a console, more like a very high-priced prototype)) .
After playing 4 years into this gen (Saturn+Nintendo64), I WANTED SO MUCH TO GRASP THE NEXT-GEN TECHNOLOGY delivered by the awesome Dreamcast. (bought it in 1999) + Xbox in 2001.
After playing 6 long years with my (Xbox/Dreamcast), I bought the Microsoft Xbox 360 in 2005.
See the trend?
New technology never come too soon.

did you not read it, he is not saying that...at all
he's talking about the % of time that the PS3 has been on the market.
if you go by their 10 year :
A business plan is a formal statement of a set of business goals, the reasons why they are believed attainable, and the plan for reaching those goals. It may also contain background information about the organization or team attempting to reach those goals.
The business goals may be defined for for-profit or for non-profit organizations. For-profit business plans typically focus on financial goals, such as profit or creation of wealth. Non-profit and government agency business plans tend to focus on organizational mission which is the basis for their governmental status or their non-profit, tax-exempt status, respectively—although non-profits may also focus on optimizing revenue. In non-profit organizations, creative tensions may develop in the effort to balance mission with "margin" (or revenue). Business plans may also target changes in perception and branding by the customer, client, tax-payer, or larger community. A business plan having changes in perception and branding as its primary goals is called a marketing plan.
you make them out before you start something.
when they say 10 year's they mean it .
3 year's out of 10 = 30%
