I think this could happen if sony wanted it to happen. Possibly at the detriment to ps4 though, so maybe its unlikely.

Unlike ps2 though the ps3 will recieve strong support in 2014 (Metal Gear Ground Zero/ Destiny/ Dark souls 2/ GT6/ more titles I'm sure will be announced and obviously the potential for LAst Guardian/FFvXIII to be released as cross gen) Add in a pricecut and we're looking at a fairly strong 2014, even with the ps4 out. People shouldn't forget about the "other regions" which still count for a fair amount of sales and will thrive when the ps3 is considered dead in the west.

I see the system reaching 80m by the end of this year and probably selling 6m in 2014 with a price cut. The lack of Backwards compatibility in ps4 will really help its legs I think. It would be genius for Sony to release a ps3 late 2014 with complete backwards compatibility with ps2 titles. at $129 I would buy one just to archive all my ps2 games which I have lying around.

How can PS3 sell only 80m as end of 2013 if it is already near 77m in early 2013... 85m is more reasonable .

Lots of people here jumping the gun yet again just like before the PS3 launched and they were already talking about PS3 domination. PS3's sales are going to plummit after 2013 due to the new consoles and anyone thinking the declines are going to be gradual are kidding themselves. As the releases dry up in 2014 you're going to see the market flooded with millions of second hand PS3s and 2015 is going to be a very massive drop in sales. Lets dig this up at the end of 2014 to see who's right.

It will match ps1 life time sales. 100 million easily by 2016.

I think the Core Audience is the heart of the gaming/console market and are vital for a consoles well being. They need to be catered to first. This market is reliable, owns multiple consoles and PC while buying tons of games regulary but they expect constant improvment on all fronts. Casuals are the gravy and come in second they can be miss or hit and bring in tons of money if the novelty you offer is good enough. But this can't be planned you just have to be lucky. 

Another market is the Media Hub market for the masses that starts to gain ground among the non gamers this could be a solid and profitable long term audience if done right and even more profitable than the casual market.

I think when all is said and done PS3 will be above 100 Million. Sony got China in November 2012 to allow the PS3 to be officially marketed and to be sold in China.

199 Price still not reached. A 199 premium PS3 GTA 6 Last of Us God of War Ascension. PS3 could sell decently this year and the next after that still selling a couple of Millions for a couple of years maybe at 149 or less.
