Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Perhaps the biggest announcement of the summit was....

Perhaps the biggest announcement of the summit was the absence of any new big announcements. Many of us were hyped up for today's summit. NGamer said it would eclipse E3 2008/09 combined. Other official Nintendo organisations like ONM also hinted at something big coming in their next issues and also hinted at big announcements from todays/tomorow's summit.

Many of us had seen X10 and many thought that Nintendo's summit was going to challenge it. Many thought that new content might get revealed and of course that new details on MarioGalaxy2 and Metroid The Other M would see release. But could the lack of new content actually be the biggest announcement of the summit?

Seriously Nintendo revealed that both of its heavy weight titles will launch this summer, they also revealed everything their is to know about other Q1,2 titles. But Nintendo did not touch on Vitality sensor or on Zelda Wii. If Nintendo is so confident in its fall line-up that it is launching both its heavy weight titles in the summer what does that say about Nintendo's fall/winter lineup.

Infact this summit has hyped me up way more for Nintendo's Fall/Winter line up, then any other announcement made at the summit could have. What about you is the early release of Mario/Metroid getting you hyped way more for E3 and Nintendo's fall line-up?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

The lack of a big announcement was the biggest announcement? I could actually see Cammie coming on stage and saying that :P

We already basically know what Nintendo will throw at us for the holidays and that's Wii Vitality/Wii Relax (whatever it's going to be called) and Zelda Wii. I think E3 will be pretty big this year, my guess it'll include:

- Metroid: Other M on stage demo as the game releases a couple of weeks after E3
- Vitality Sensor final hardware and software
- Retro Studios next title with a tentative 2011 release date
- Pikmin 3 announced with a tentative 2011 release date
- The Legend of Zelda: Wii unveiled with full stage demo and trailer
- Next generation Pokemon titles shown off
- A couple of brand new Nintendo IP's for DS and DSi to revitalise lagging software and hardware sales

Probably a couple more little things for WiiWare and DSi but that'd probably be the bulk of it.

Monster Hunter 3 free online & advertising push could be considered huge, coming from a conservative, distant company Nintendo is known as.

I know for a fact Nintendo will close their E3 conference with Zelda. But otherwise, I agree.

It's easier to be psyched and hyped for something that can be anything than what is plainly in front of you. The sky is quite beautiful, but it's the possibility of aliens that hypes up a news story. Essentially, although I know where you are coming from, you are only psyched about that unknown lineup because it is unknown. And those magazines feed off of that for hyping their stories by using statements as "bigger than last E3's combined" which is purely subjective and can't be wrong or right.

What you should take from this media summit is Nintendo's commitment to release big titles throughout the entire year, have a bigger online sector, and take part in big 3rd party titles that they think are worthwhile. Even more, you should be hyped for the likes of about everything they showed because they really showed a good deal. We all can't wait for the Zelda trailer or whatever Nintendo has up their sleeves, but for now we've got some pretty amazing stuff in their own right. Mario, Metroid, Sin and Punishment 2, MH3, DQIX, Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver, bunch of Wiiware and DSiware titles, and DSi Xl... I'd say that's a win for the home team.

Zucas
you robbed words from my mouth :)

It`s easier to get hyped, when "hype wheel" starts spinning.. Any announcements revealed, cant´t satisfy the hunger that hype has built.

One of the best media briefing, i´d say. Wise to leave Zelda for e3

Well to be honest, I didn't write it in a chronological order :P I agree with you though

What really surprised me at the summit was that Nintendo didn't push Red Steel 2. Considering that it's the first real big game to utilize the M+, you'd think it would be in Nintendo's best interest to try and push the game a bit, even if it isn't one of their own titles.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Ohhh, well, the only thing I can do is wait for e3 to see new zelda
