...360
smh. Why is the PS3 up over last week? Can't be because of the re-release of RE5.....

Good sales for an amazing game. Happy for Heavy Rain's sales in Japan.
I wonder if Monster Hunter Frontier will give 360 a boost when it releases. Its been on PC for a while there...
PS3 had a new big game and a new SKU (250 GB), considering all that, its lead is smaller than I expected this week
Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)
I guess CGI had to stop for a pee some time. It just happened to be at the right time. I smell a conspiracy here, he musta been tipped off by someone about when the numbers would be posted...or...possibly more shocking...he hates Heavy Rain and has been lurking around VGC all day in a depressive funk, but is too embarrassed to admit his most hyped game of all time is a PoS so he's maintaining the facade that he only visited momentarily and is heavily engrossed in the game.
I'm gonna go with the conspiracy theory option as being more likely.
As to the numbers: why is anyone surprised? There were plenty of people predicting PS3 over Wii for this week. I was sceptical of the selling power of a RE5 re-release but there you go. I was also not expecting Wii to drop by quite so much. Still even I figured Wii and PS3 would converge.
Wii gonna cross 10 million and maybe DS cross 30 million in next week's chart.

I don't get why people act like the PS3 beating the Wii is a huge surprise, it just had a new model and another release in the RE series, both things that they seem to love in Japan.
A 2k lead in one week doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things when the Wii is ahead by over 5 million consoles in Japan.
That said, I think the PS3 sales are going to stick real close to Wii sales from here on out (that is unless the vitality sensor really takes off). But either way, the Wii will still have a slight edge I think.
Lets look at it from an analytical view.
The PS3's new 250GB sku boosted sales by about 5k. Which is not too bad really, it is around 20% of last weeks numbers.
However the question for PS3 in Japan is how will they sustain those numbers? FFXIII has now come and gone. And now the new console is out too.
Looking at the horizon of things to come there is not much coming to it in the way of system sellers apart from the beast that is GT5. The problem with that is we have no idea when that will come out. The previously expected March now looks unlikely seeing as we are but a week away from that.
So looking at it from an analysis point of view i think this will be the biggest number of PS3's sold in Japan for sometime.
