Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should buyers of pre-owned titles be punished?

I think SONY should have learned its lesson from the PSP go.. The model to adopt here isnt charging more. Its about giving more. If console devs get all cranky with this crap, people are just gonna eventually flock back to PC gaming. The games are cheaper, and controls are less rigid.

Im really not impressed with all this crap. If companies have been profiting all these years- and the market is growing by a billion dollars each year atleast, then clearly SONY isnt doing what they should be doing.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

I defend second-hand buyers' rights, although actually I don't buy second-hand, I prefer budget editions, because I want to be sure all major bugs are removed and the game has long lasting value and I always build my PC's with medium-low end CPU and GPU, favouring low noise and low power consumption, not to mention that often later editions include some expansions.

vlad stop trying to justify being a pirate. I really do hope that you appreciate the 'ignorant saps' you rely on to support your hobby for you.

Please stop supporting cut-throat practices and businesses and not support change in business models in line with modern technology.

Of course, you're liberating gamers with your piracy.  Please offer up your supposed business model that saves us of all these problems - developers to make more game related t-shirts? They obviously can't seem to get their games good enough for you to pay for.  What are the vlad game requirements to get you to fork over $60? Even if new games were released at $40, you would still be complaining because you're now used to getting everything for free.

If I pay $50 for Starcraft 2. What makes people whink they can sell their games at the same price point? I'd pay for most games if they were at $30.

Also before you start, over the past 2 years, since the end of 2007, I have bought about 110 games, give or tanke a few. I have a very good feeling I have supported the industry far far more than you have. Or am I wrong here?

I don't see how that excuses you to pirate games that you personally perceive to be of lesser quality. You could easily flip that around too - what makes you think you have the right to download those games free of charge? So your business model to combat piracy is to have every game released at half price that isn't Starcraft 2? Good luck with that.

Actually the business model would be to make all games of Starcraft 2 quality. In fact the current model does work, it's shown that music pirates buy more music and are a greater contributor to the music industry than non-pirates. Now imagine if it was legal too. I also have the feeling I am far more supportive of the gaming industry than you are, and I'm a pirate.

That's ridiculous - so let me get this straight you want to form a quality watchdog regulator that consists of just you on the panel (who's opinion reigns supreme) to ensure that all games match the same quality of Starcraft 2 according to you, and all other games are what? Thrown into oblivion??

I don't know what irrefutable evidence there is to show that all music pirates contribute more to the music industry than legitimate purchasers.

I have no idea how many games I've purchased over the past 2 years suffice to say it's more than just a few. I do know that all the games I've bought have been new releases from retail though.

It's very irrefutable. Also I'm fairly sure developers know if their own game is of Starcraft 2 quality or not.
