Nice I was on the right side. But I still strongly believe we shouldn't compare handhelds and consoles. Especially with all those Apple products screwing up everything.

Did anyone actually believe the Wii had a chance at outselling the PS2?

To be fair, this thread was made in 2010, the Wii's massive collapse was just beginning to happen as 3rd parties abandoned it and Nintendo plus a few successful stranglers were still making money. Had it actually sustained itself better in the west (or the 3DS been the monster hit Nintendo wanted at the original price point), it could have become the best selling console and probably would have let Nintendo hold off on announcing its successor console for another 6 months to a year.

But the drought that hit the Wii was severe and once a family had one system, gamers didn't really feel the need to support it just like developers that weren't aiming for the casual market.

It was the first real step up in tech, and came at a great time in the industry. Will be hard to duplicate those numbers ever again. Especially with the state of our industry!

Idk, its an amazing prediction considering the odds. DS should have passed PS2 by now, Wii could have. And everyone was thinking he was insane, yet he was right.

It deservedly so. It's fitting that PS2 remains atop the pyramid. OP was a most solid prediction. I never thought it was possible for Wii, of all system, could ever dethrone the PS2.

I don't believe for a second Nintendo themselves even believed it. Nintendo would be lucky to even pass PSX.

Mmmm, Wii defeating PS2 was a long shot to begin with. But it will still 'easily' outsell the PS1 at least (easily is relative, it should've done it by now). I also still think the DS will be able to beat PS2 in the end, but only just. That gap has been +/- 1m like forever now.

Nintendo just needs to take note from Sony for once and sell these things in the upcoming markets, then it would be done; 120m Wii, 170m DS.
