Well, to say that people don’t buy systems for games that are not out yet is pretty much an assumption. I myself bought the PS3 for heavenly sword, it was dated for a release of March when the PS3 launched, and I got it then.
So, people do buy a system for the games that are coming to it, that’s like saying the xbox360 has not sold to many customers who are die hard Halo fans, but they got the system now. Blue Ray, I think the Blue Ray pitch is a small percentage, as the number of HDTV’s increase, then this may be a reason but right now this pitch is being sold to a small amount of people. Brand, that is playing into some people, I got a cousin who after purchasing the PS1 has never looked back, it’s impossible to get him to even glance at another console, I believe there is a larger chunk of people like this then Blue-Ray buyers, people that simply refuse to look anywhere else.
At the moment, I think SONY’s marketing is not selling the console correctly, they are not really pointing out the functionalities, and this plays into the reason why they are not appealing to more people, tech savvy types would jump on a PS3 in a heartbeat, I got a friend who has a moded XBOX with an updated HDD and after he saw all that the PS3 can do, he wants one.. He’s saving up to get one, and this is a diehard xbox fan, but he likes the fact that the PS3 is able to change HDD, take memory cards etc. This is another group of people that are buying PS3’s.
