Any impressions online yet?

I won't have the beta downloaded until yesterday or in two days. After that, I'll post as many impressions as I can, and I'll try to answer questions too.

Then give me your key for the next two days, I'll make good use of it

Muahahaahahahahahahaah I got my beta key emailed to me today! :D

liar

I'll post some screens tomorrow to prove it :P

DAMN YOU!!!!!!

I heard a lot of blizzcon guys haven't even gotten keys yet, so I was hoping all the emails haven't been sent out yet. Hopefully, they'll be sending out many more emails throughout the next couple days.

The emails will come in multiple waves, so don't lose your hope yet.

yeah I know they come in waves, but how long does each wave last, is my concern.

I was in WoW beta, first wave, and it took a day and a half to get my email even though each wave was two weeks.

How do u guys manage to play Starcraft with so many Koreans around? I mean, their skills is on a totally different level.

To beat Korean, you have to become Korean.

Well, I already said that. But how does it feel to constantly get whooped? Can you avoid it?

the easiest way is to somehow do a sucessful cheese build to end the game as quick as possible. If you face a player who has better mechanics (Micro/Macro) than you the better player's lead will grow the longer the game gets. You will have to either have a much superior build order (possible since the game is very new) or hope that the korean won't spot your cheese until it's too late.

I haven't downloaded the beta yet since I am going to buy a new computer for it first, but I don't think that everyone on the beta will be korean. There will always be some players that are worse, there always is. For example, on one of the beta streams, there was a protoss that remained in his main throughout the entire game and only had a few zealots and a carrier while the Zerg moved in with 200 pop ultra. There will always be noobs to pwn, even in beta ^^

Heh, you have it all thought out already.

But what's a "cheese" or "successful cheese"?

Cheese is a term used to describe strategies that are considered "cheesy". By that I mean strategies designed to take the opponent completely off guard and end the game quickly. 4 pool zergling rush is the most famous of every cheese builds. Not all cheeses are as extreme as the 4 pool rush though. For example, in SCBW, protoss can do a quick speed zealot build to overwhelm the zerg with speed upgraded zealots early on and quickly transition to high templar to end the game. Or terran against protoss can do a 2 factory push where they move out with marines vultures and unupgraded tanks at a timing where the protoss usually are weak compared to the terran.

Usually if a cheese fails, the game is lost, but if a cheese is sucessful, it's insta win. My favourite cheese build is the Cannon Rush. It involves sneaking in a probe in the opponent's main and starting to build photon cannon out of his sight range. When the first cannons are finished you just keep adding cannons closer and closer to your opponent. Your opponent won't be able to do anything as your cannons eventually destroy his base. (doesn't work against terran)

EDIT: The difference between cheese and rush is that there are mid-game cheeses like protoss fast carrier bulds that doesn't overwhelm opponents in the early game but later on. All rushes can also be called cheeses.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Well, I generally hate rushing. It's by far the most effective strategy in all RTS games, but even if I'm the rusher and end up winning, it's not very satisfying if the opponent is taken off-guard. I feel cheap. Only if the game is between good players that can defend a rush (or he rushes too), rushing can be fun.

Are you a good rusher?

If you do a cheesey aggressive build and you don't completely cripple your enemy or win the game, against a good player you have lost.  Cheese builds are basically all or nothing.

That's another reason I don't like it. All or nothing means quick and uneven games. Not exciting, not fun.
