Forums - Gaming Discussion - FFXIII Slightly Worse on Xbox 360

Sh1nn said:

Final retail code has just arrived in the building for the Xbox 'cut' of Final Fantasy XIII and as many suspected, it is exactly that. A cut.

Having just finished the game in just under sixty hours on PS3 puts us in prime position to note the differences in visual quality.

“Sacrifices have clearly been made”

So far we have noted:

- While facial detail appears largely unchanged, the characters' clothes appear at first glance to be lacking finer details, with notably lower resolution textures.

- Incidental environmental objects and enemies appear less detailed, both in texture and geometry.

- The game's CG is extremely compressed and pales alongside the stunning HD goodness which blu-ray offers.

Knowing that this is likely to stir controversy, we'd like to make it clear that NowGamer is a multi-format publication, with no leanings either way toward a particular console. These are just the observations fo a few journalists who have experience the game on PS3. It would appear Square Enix has had to make some sacrifices to cram the game onto three discs after all, particularly when it comes to CG quality.

so the question is now which site do we believe ??

I guess we wait for digital foundry and lensoftruth to make better comparisons

They're both sites I've never heard of so I have no reason to trust either.  I'm waiting for IGN and Gametrailers.

Reading the title of this thread (and of the VGC news post) I remembered this picture from a while back:

Just enjoy the game guys (well, apparently it's getting "bad Western review scores", I guess that's what an 86 on MetaCritic gets you now-a-days. )

I'll read the Eurogamer one later (though I'll still wait for the IGN and Gametrailers reviews), I think lens of truth is all around worthless, and I don't realyl have any desire to watch random youtube reviews.

Not that big of a deal. Personally, Microsoft has saved me money from buying a PS3. I was originally going to get a PS3 for FFXIII, but we all know what happened at E3 !! ;)

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

DigitalSpy.com said the PS3 is crisper.

If the differences are a clear cut as the OP seems to indicate then I should imagine the Xbox version will score considerably lower in reviews.

However if the differences are compensated by better frame rate and fewer screen tears then I should imagine the scores will be largely the same.

Either they're virtually identical or the PS3 version is better. If the 360 version isn't significantly worse, I'm still going with the 360 version. I'm a whore for Achievements.
