Gamestop has announced by the end of this year (i think) they are stopping the sale of all Ps2 games in their stores. Why would they continue to buy Ps2s like crazy if they won't sell their games soon?

I suspect that the vast majority of PS3 owners who don't have a BC PS3 care about it quite a lot. |
I respectfully disagree. the ps2 is over 9 yrs old. Why would you still want to play ps2 games at this point. that's just me though.

Because the library of said 9 year old console is probably the best library in gaming. Until my 60gb launch BC PS3 broke 2 days after Christmas, I still regularly played Gran Turismo 4, Rugby 2005 and Athens 2004 (nothing quite like smashing world records).

If used PS2 games are still in demand at GameStop (and apparently they still are), this doesn't sound like a good idea for them. GameStop's whole schtick is supposed to be about having a wide selection of games. That's what a retailer specializing in videogames is supposed to have! If they didn't, they wouldn't be any different from Best Buy, Amazon, Wal-Mart, etc. (in fact they'd be worse because their prices tend to suck.) I haven't done business with GameStop/EB even once in the past couple of years. They're losing a step to places like Amazon, Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Ebay.

The PS2 has a better library than the PS3 and the 360. (Unless the only thing you care about is graphics.)
Many people still play their PS2's. I was just about to play SMT3: Nocturne when my DS2 controller crapped out on me. I'm waiting for my new DS2 controllers in the mail. It would be nice if my ps3 could play ps2 games, but what can you do. I'll probably end up buying another ps2 just in case my current ps2 happens to go out on me.
I'll probably buy a new one right now, but the ps2 is still expensive in Japan. It's msrp is 16,000 yen (~$177 USD), which is expensive for a ps2! (It's about the same price as a PSP 3000)
starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."
Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"
So, where is this awesome credible source that you got from Gamestop ordering PS2?
