I suspect that the vast majority of PS3 owners who don't have a BC PS3 care about it quite a lot.

I respectfully disagree. the ps2 is over 9 yrs old. Why would you still want to play ps2 games at this point. that's just me though.

Because the library of said 9 year old console is probably the best library in gaming. Until my 60gb launch BC PS3 broke 2 days after Christmas, I still regularly played Gran Turismo 4, Rugby 2005 and Athens 2004 (nothing quite like smashing world records).
