Forums - Sales - My Analysis of the Ps3 Numbers.

hmm -- i find it hard to believe that SONY would be foolish enough to report replacement shipments as "sales". I think its more likely that SONY is simply selling far more PS3's in area's that are hard to track for VGC and possibly even selling more consoles in Europe/North America then NPD/ GfK expects by selling consoles to non-traditional game retailers and non-NPD/ GfK tracked retailers. (not to mention NPD / Gfk cannot accurately track online console sales).

Anyway ioi in future when just before you undertake a massive adjustments project like the one that is going on now, could you please make a post on the front page to warn users that a series of large adjustments are coming as it would help minimize the communities frenzied actions.

Why in the hell should he????  The only people that whinge this badly are the PS3 fans, pure and simple, as proven when none of this hysteria has happened when the 360 and Wii have had massive negative adjustments.  The simple fact is some people on this site need to grow up and either accept the figures for what they are or leave the site.  Despite warnings to the contrary last week by ioi you're all still whinging about shipped vs sold figures AGAIN......

The OP renders the rest of the thread pointless...

To assume that every time a PS3 is sold at retail another one is on its way in shipping is frankly.... idiotic.

And yet that is exactly what you are saying by stating that another 1m will have been shipped since Jan 1st.

Normally, that isn't such a crazy idea.. They just ship them in large party's, so not for every console sold. It is possible that Sony shipped like 500-750k units, but that depens on the units lying there on the shelves. Do you really think a company doesn't ship when they're running low on units in stores? It would actually be pretty idiotic to NOT ship on par with demand.

EDIT: Sorry for the triple post.

Did you forget that post I made for you earlier about Sony only shipping 10,000 PSP's for an entire quarter?

Never, NEVER just assume how many units they'll ship.   Because you are pulling a number completely out of thin air and betting against VGC's numbers that have actual data behind them.

Data doesn't mean much if it's inaccurate.

Well i already had posted the numbers after going through through several sales tracking sites, don't mind posting them again
ps3- 33.75
360-39
wii-67.45, it seems Wii's numbers are pretty much matching close to VGChartz tracking.

So you'd rather accept a complete guess based on a history that can vary from several million units to just 10,000 units over a well tuned extrapolated sampled data set?

He's just flat out assuming that Sony shipped a million or so units in January.   I think I'll take the sampled sales data as being more accurate than someone's guess at monthly shipping data.
