Forums - Gaming Discussion - EDGE review scores - Heavy Rain (7) - Mass Effect 2 (9) - Bioshock 2 (8)

Why are all you guys talking about heavy rain because its not the biggest news to come from all these reviews............the real issue is that they gave miles edgeworth a 6!!!!!!!

Fuck edge....

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

EDGE giving a PS3 exclusive a low score? I'd never of predicted THAT would happen!  EDGE sucks balls

Dante's Inferno didn't do too well.

Its weird to me about Dante's Inferno...I believe the reviews are being way 2 harsh...its a good game...I purchased it day one...Heavy Rain is going to change the way games are done...Sometimes game dev have to be willing to take a risk and be that sacrifice in the scores...but we need something new and not the same crap...

Snippets from the Heavy Rain review:

Scene to scene, few games match Heavy Rain's compulsive pull.

A fine line is trodden between realism - aptly conjured with the finest quality of light seen this generation - and filmic cliche, only occasionally, and thus effectively, giving in to the fantasy that plagued so much of Fahrenheit.

Heavy Rain is a point-and-click adventure with a masssive verb sheet; new actions are as much a twist as the narrative reveals they prompt.

The controls don't always make sense.  Vigorously flailing the Sixaxis to bully and onscreen figure into brushing his teeth is far from simulation.

In a game founded primarily on choosing a path, the inability to know exactly what you're doing is literally and figuratively short-sighted.

The general skeleton of the story cannot truly be changed, cheapening every event in the process.

And the closing paragraph:

"How far are you willing to go to save someone you love?" asks the kidnapper.  We'd put a similar question to Cage: how far are you willing to go for interactive drama?  Scene by scene, Heavy Rain proves itself a worthy advocate, ripe with potential and mystery.  But the bigger it grows and the more it threatens to collide and conflict, the broader the strokes become.  Are you a champion of freedom and interaction or choreographed thrills?  Do you make games or films?  Like the scenarios put nefore our desperate father, the decisions are not easy, and the consequences often unsatisfying.  But watching them unfold?  Quite unlike anything else.

New IP's have such a hard time breaking ground against competition...

LittleBigPlanet -- 10 (2008 GOTY)

Uncharted 2 -- 9

Yup, here's some more:

MGS4  8 - I can see why, i've played through multiple times, and skipping the cutscences leaves very little "game" to play. I'd give a 9.

Resistance 2  6 - I didn't get into this game, and it was overhyped for me since i didn't play the original. I'd give it a 7.5

Killzone 2  7 - I've never talked about this game on VGChartz for this reason...i hate the controls, otherwise, love it. I'd give it a 9

Valkyria Chr.  7 - From what i've seen in video form, it looks to deserve this score, but i'd give it a 6 for it's slow pacing, and fugly graphics.

Heavy Rain  7 - I've only played the demo, but i don't like the controls much, in any case, i have high hopes, and love it so far. I'd give it a 9.

Flower  7 - I haven't played it, but it looks beautiful, and creative. Only judging from what i've seen i'd give it a 8.

Infamous 7 - I didn't care for this game at all, I didn't like the idea of his only power being lightning, even with the different uses. I'd give it a 7

MAG 6 - OoOoOoO God knows i hate this game. The controls, and gameplay design are my major gripe (health system, melee, etc). I'd give a 5

I see what you mean, no bias there!

My own little edits to what i think the games deserve and why.

Edge like creativity, something different, something special. It is the reason why Little Big Planet, Mario Galaxy, Rez and the like do well. 7-10 is a good review for Edge. 7 meaning, if you like that style of game you will like it.

It's not a disaster.

Edge also gave:

Morrowind - 6/10
Oblivion - 8/10
Fallout 3 - 7/10
Mass Effect - 7/10

not surprised 90% ps3 games get 7/10 from Edge
