OMG WII HD CONFIRMED!!1!
Seriously now, I'm sure Nintendo could make it work, but I can't see why they'd even want to.

The addon thing would be impossible; if it had another input somewhere other than the USB. USB cant transfer a lot of info like that. like the other cartridge based systems, co processors, and other addons like the Expansion Pak connect directly to the motherboard.
one question i have is :
why can my ps2 do gran turismo 4 at 1080
but my wii cant do ANYTHING at 1080
generally i like wiis graphics more
The only way to portably upgrade the Wii. Is to open it up. Take out your solder iron and change the parts with compatible superior ones. Of course there might be limitations due to bandwidth size, but they you upgraded it.
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Because Nintendo locked it to 480p. I mean... developers barely deliver acceptable graphics and performance with that... just think about what would happen when using 720 or 1080i. Also, the PS2 was a pixel processing monster, well above the Xbox 1, Gamecube, Wii... it was half of the PS3 and 360 in that matter (even if it was quite primitive in other regards).
On topic... wouldn't it be easier if Nintendo released a firmware upgrade that gave game developers the ability to overclock/throttle the Wii's hardware? It's a fact that the RAM (or at least part of it) has A LOT of headroom, I mean, it's the same that it's used on the HD twins, just less and with lower speeds. I don't know about the CPU's and GPU's headroom, but I'm sure they still have some Mhz left. Also, the Wii's GDDR3 RAM can be used for anything, so that would overcome the Wii's small embedded frame buffer problem.
But I doubt Nintendo ever does something like this or what the OP said... again, read the beginning of my post.
They may as well take this external processor, external video and external RAM and make a new console, rather than an add-on to the Wii.
@fazz
its a shame really, even interlaced 1080 would be nice
The stuff you listed are too hard to understand

Essentially, plug a new console into the Wii and use the Wii's GPU.
