For a second I thought the words were yours. I was trying to figure out how CGI could be so full of rage all the time and yet project such a calm demeanor.

I agree with Mr. Angrypants. People who want a single, unified hardware platform for games are daft and Sony needs to pick a goram name for their motion controller already.

Guess I'm daft, then...

What people fail to realize is that there would still be competition if there was a single unified platform.  You think there was no competition in movies when the only format was DVD?  There was--it was just hidden from the consumer.  You think Universal didn't want to sell more movies in a similar timeframe than MGM?  That WB wasn't competing with Disney?  We still got plenty of incredible films in the last decade, there was still competition, it was just hidden from the consumer, and that's a good thing.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Thank to exclusivity, game designers can develop different aspects of games depending on which platform they are developing for.
However, different graphics capability should not be they only reason to make a game exclusive, for example I don't see the reason, behind the economical ones, of Demon Souls, Metal Gear Solid 4 Ps3 exclusivity  or for Mass Effect, Gears Of War X360 exclusivity.

"If a game is set as an exclusive, keep it that way. Don't come out a year later and say it will release on another platform, because that is just annoying."

Welcome to this generation. Its all about making the quick bucks nowadays. Blame Nintendo influence. Metal Gear Series stopped (supposely) Final Fantasy (maybe) what other games seems to be diluting?

I aint going to lie, there are variety of games that are lovable by us, but my guess is companies are gettign tired of developing games that take a long time to create and generate not as much cash as their competitors :(

Thats just how it is everyone wants fastest cash as possible taking less risks.

Movies don't have a unified platform, so I don't get the comparison. You can watch them in a theatre with various levels of audio/visual quality, in two dimensions or in three. You can watch them at home on your TV, via a signal carried from a tower, satellite or cable. Or you can watch it at home played from one of a few different disc formats that you can buy from Wal-Mart or rent from Blockbuster. You can watch it on your handheld device with a copy that you downloaded from the internet.

Some of these movies are even "platform exclusive" in that they're direct-to-video, or made for TV, or only available online, or contain exclusive unrated content on the DVD. Indeed every theatrical release is a timed exclusive.

The movie market uses a vast array of different hardware and software solutions to deliver content. I think video games might actually have less variance in all the ways they can be delivered.

games should only be exclusive if you are going to bring out a much better game then what you would do if it was multi platform... its an option that the devs have and its legit, although i think most of times its not an option made by devs but is imposed by the chairman to make multi plat games for more money or exclusive for some bucks under the table... this is true to 3rd party devs of course... 1st and 2nd party devs for obvious reasons can only make their games exclusives...
exclusives are good because they tendentiously are better games ( technically speaking, and seams like games ahead of its time ) than multi plat ones...

CGI-Quality and probably anyone on VGChartz know where I stand on Exclusives. I guess it's because I'm Canadian but diversity and Identity are the things that strengthen markets and industries. I HATE HATE HATE when games go multiplat. Not because I'm a fanboy but because I like having each console being a different experience from its competitors. I hated when FFXIII/DMC/Tekken/Bioshock went multiplat because the lines between all consoles start to blur and THAT'S bad for the industry. I hated all of the Mass Effect/MGS4 multiplat talks because it feels like our industry isn't going to evolve.

Each gen except this one, each console was able to create it's own image and own identity. It seems this gen the only console able to do that is the Wii. Take away Blu-Ray and the PS3 and 360 are essentially the same console, just a different box.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

If we were all developers, and the chairman of the company, I AM positively sure we would be doing the same thing. That is developing games to go multiplatform.

And lucky Nintendo does not have a console as powerful as the xbox 360 and Ps3....because IF it did....lets not even talk about it.

Exclusives are very important for the industry and for competition (especially on the hardware front). Exclusive console development has always been about utilising the strengths of a single platform for the benefit of your game and it's provided us with some of the best games of all time. When a game goes multiplatform you can't take full advantage of the hardware available whilst having to deal with the disadvantages of both platforms.

Of course the business decision to release on multiple platforms makes sense, but I think for gamers, exclusives tend to give more wow factor as they push the hardware or utilise in a way that just wouldn't be possible with multiplatform development.
