I actually like it better than Twilight Princess.

In some ways, I do too honestly.  The combat is infinitely deeper, as is the weapon upgrading and spellcasting, and everything just moves so much faster.  Playing as Amatarasu versus Wolf Link is really eye opening, the former feels so much better, with more options and more agile while the latter is clunky, slow and really shows it's N64 roots imo.  Okami looks gorgeous too, the visual design is really inspired and will hold up timelessly, while I think TP was more just "passable" with some occasionally nice effects and scale.

On the other hand, Okami dungeons/puzzles are braindead easy (and most often solutions are spoiled by interjected dialog anyway), the world design is overly segmented, pacing is uneven, narration is bloated, there are missable collectibles (NEVER a good thing in a Zelda clone) and Issun's probably the most annoying partner to ever grace the genre.  Honestly, I tend to play Zelda more for the exploration and puzzles, and in that regard TP really does trump Okami in about every way.

i beat it up ! i just think that 1-Too easy 2-impossible to get stuck simple puzzles 3-it impress most for the visuals ...

Its good but TP still way better , i give it a 8,9 and zelda hum you know 11,5 ^~ its a amazing game indeed but some guys likes to say that is better than zelda , and we all know that is not (hear that IGN it is NOT)

GO PATS! 2012 THE YEAR OF NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS'S 4TH SUPER BOWL!

A patriot to the end. GO PATS!

Now playing> THE LAST STORY (Wii) Best RPG I EVER PLAYED. *-*

Nintendo could u please just take my money and give me back my 3DS?!

Well, I think there's no question that Okami is one of the best games ever made. The only question would be the flaws someone has that would prevent them from liking it. These sorts of things need to examined.

Hey, the puzzles in Okami weren't easy. If I hadn't told the VGC Bond how to get past that nasty stone guy on Oni Island, he would have never finished the game.

lol.  Cellphone to the rescue!

Really, had they toned down Issun and edited the game down to flow better, I think it'd improve dramatically.  It just needed a bit more polishing.  The Wii port was also pretty unoptimized, and could have definitely been better.  I wasn't a fan of the new supersaturated colors or reduced paper filter, the PS2 version really does look a lot better imo.  The weird weapon timing in the Wii version sucks too, I wish we'd have gotten the controls from the JP version instead (A button attack, wiitmore dodge).

The most obvious flaw is the lame beginning of the game, like twesterm pointed out. From the Nintendo channel data (18 hour average) we can gather that Okami is a love-hate game and the majority of players never came close to beat the game (30 hours minimum). It's likely that the people who like the game increased the average time drastically (my copy is way beyond 200 hours, others played it too) while most people stop playing after a couple of hours.

Honestly, I felt the flow was pretty terrible throughout.  The game really starts and stops through it's entirety, and after a while it gets really formulaic.

The intro's pretty slow and meh, but that's usually the case for Zelda games imo.  It was in line with TP (which took FOREVER to get going) and way better than TWW imo (ugh, stealth!?)

I could make the same case for Navi in Zelda being annoying, and I could probably form complaints about flow if I didn't like it and wanted to complain about it. The game has amazing amounts of polish, by the way. I haven't played the Wii version much, so I can't offer a lot of insight on that one, but you're looking at one of the most polished games ever made.

Then I guess it's better to blame the other big flaw: the fighting controls. Combat is no fun if the combos demand such precise timing. It gets as good as it should be once you found the first rosary, but that's several hours into the game. Mirrors and swords suck in the Wii version.

Well, this is a problem with the western Wii version.  In the PS2 and Japanese Wii versions, you can just button mash to your heart's content with any weapon.

The esoteric timing was a big issue imo.  I eventually adjusted, but really I shouldn't have had to. :/

I'll admit, I'm also no fan of Navi.  "Lishen!" got incredibly grating, but no, even that doesn't compare to Issun NEVER shutting up and ruining nearly every dungeon puzzle.  Seriously, it's more an issue of editing than anything (which was really the chief problem with Okami's dialog throughout), sometimes less is more.  Truth be told, "editing" really gets to the core of what Okami would need generally to make it a better game.  It's too padded.

As for flow, OOT probably does it better than any similar game still.  It definitely has it's rough edges (Water Temple, ugh!) but overall it's a lot smoother, more open and less formulaic than Okami (as well as basically all the Zeldas that followed it, bar maybe MM, which is much more open but probably not smoother).

I kinda wish Capcom would release a tweaked "Director's Cut", fixing the issues with the Wii version (oversatured color, reduced blur filter, weird weapon timing, missing staff roll, various bugfixes, some symbol recognition, etc). As it stands now, I'd want to recommend the PS2 version first, but honestly the brush mechanic works so well on Wii (and by extension really improves it's use in combat, almost changing how the game's played) that it's a little hard to. Plus the Wii version adds text skip (ESSENTIAL!) and loads way, way faster. It'd be nice if we got a definitive version though.
