You said they are better than Uncharted 2. You DID NOT, however, tell me they were 'damn near perfect' |
Uncharted 2 already had fantastic graphics.
A more cartoonish style, though.

But you're still judging something you haven't played/won't be playing. Would it be ok for PS-only fans to judge Mass Effect 2? If they won't be buying the game/playing through the game, how can their opinions be anything but inflammatory? I didn't say you weren't entitled to an opinion, though you can't judge it realistically. But you still would be on the case of others if the shoe was on the other foot, you've proven that. It's not a big deal however, just an observation. I don't personally mind either way, I know what I'm expecting on the 23rd and many others have said quite the opposite of the visuals. |
Yes, when it comes to graphics. It's not hard to evaluate quality of graphics from good in-game footage. Especially a game like Heavy Rain which has a slow pace and has very limited freedom of camera and movement. You don't have to play the game to see the graphics. Good trailers show almost everything there is to see.
Gameplay and overall quality of a game is completely different. That can't be judged very well by only watching in-game footage.
So there's no hypocricy here.
| Kantor said: I would have to disagree there, Naz. I thought the graphics were pretty damned near perfect, even better than Uncharted 2. Especially in "Sleazy Place"- "Crime Scene" had an interesting art scheme, the quality of which was debatable. But in the hotel, the environments were pretty much perfectly designed, and the character models looked great (even Lauren Winter who looked like a vampire in the early stages of development). |

The graphics were sub par as I said outside
but inside, in her bedroom for example they were the best visuals I have seen in any game.
Everyone will have different opinions, but the graphics are nothing to worry about here imo, the slightly off voice acting is a bigger worry.
Even then I am nit picking, the demo was amazing.
I regret that I said "I agree" with Naz though. Heavy Rain looks far better than almost anything out there, on PS3 or elsewhere.
I mainly wanted to point out that the graphics during the hype machine have been overrated, and the humans in Heavy Rain are still far from the 'uncanny valley'.
It's still a fantastic looking game, at least graphically.

The indoor enviornments and the character models seem to be where they put the most detail. Just look at 'The Taxidermist" scene. The inside of that house was unrivaled visually. @ slimebeast This is ultimatley why I say your opinion isn't realistic. To know how this game really looks, you'd have to play it. |
I know its as I told you, a painting coming to life.
Her room was so well done, you could tell how much detail & effort went into it, that is the perfection kantor is talking about.
But outside, in the rain..the visuals are a different story, but I am sure they polished them up there.

As a person who studies 'The Uncanny Valley" likes there's no tomorrow, that's what I think games should be striving for, to avoid 'The Valley' altogether. |
True. But since movies have been there already (that Final Fantasy movie, Beowulf, and there's others), some game makers will be tempted to go there too as soon as we got the GPU horsepower.
That original trailer with that angry chick. I dunno if my memory serves me wrong, but I thought that was quite close to uncanny valley, depending on how zoomed in on her the camera was.

Doesn't the green part contradict with the red??
(assuming u havent played the demo, which u said u was going to skip)
@OP and Everyone else that weren't impressed by the graphics.
We don't know what build they released with the Demo, there were a lot of glitches I seen so my thinking is it was pretty early build.
I'm more basing off Killzone 2, they showed the graphical improvement and it was amazing. I could see this with Heavy Rain as well.
Either way, I thought the graphics were pretty damn good. I would imagine them getting better by it's release though.
There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.
Serious? I thought the graphics was unbelievable yet i was playing it on a TV that has Broken HDMI Port
Graphics was AMAZING and it wasn't even on HDMI
Am kind of S S S S HOCKK!! LOL
