FF8 is easily the worst in the entire franchise (probably the worst RPG I've ever played, with its silly story - it's like an Oprah show, but instead of a car, "everybody gets amnesiaaaaaa!" - and horrible combat system). FF7 is by far my favourite. game. ever. - great characters, great story, great character progression system, classic combats, beautiful soundtrack... I could go on, and on...

I'm about 30 hours into ff8 so far so I can't completely compare, but so far I think ff7 is better. I'm enjoying ff8 and it's quite an engaging game, but it gives you too many options to improve yourself and I haven't had even a slightly hard battle so far. It could get harder though as I haven't finished it yet.

I am completely biased though, as ff7 was my first rpg and I only got ff8 a couple of weeks ago.

all you do in FF8 is chase after some stupid girl for 3 disc. such a shitty romance game imo

You are definitely entitled to your opinion and I respect it. But to me 8 is the best of the series.

both 7 and 8 were very good games.

i simply cannot belive i sold my copy of ff8 on ebay years ago and only got £12 for it, it was the special edition big box with t-shirt etc



...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

FF7 and FF8 are both great games (FF6 as well).

I am not sure how people can dislike FF8, the game offered so much richness and detail not seen in an RPG before it. There was just a lot more to it, and a lot of options for going about doing it. I am thinking that people who say they dislike it actually never played it before; either that or they tried to play by going through ignoring any tutorials, and many gameplay features; leveling up (ignoring junctioning, AP skills, and refining) and got stuck.
