Forums - Sony - PlayStation 3 'back from the brink'

Source

Price cuts and new games may have helped Sony's beleaguered PlayStation 3 console to turn the corner, say analysts in Japan.

Sony Japan released a cheaper PS3 last week with a slightly restricted feature set, including a 40GB hard disk drive.

"Although Sony's game business has not been performing strongly, the first indications of the new lower-priced model's sales look likely to alleviate overly negative impressions of the business," said Nomura Securities analyst Eiichi Katayama.

I'm betting at the moment on a rise of the PS3 on SE, so thats why I am naturally interested. But also because it  makes a lot of news at the moments. So does the Wii, but hell I get beaten to post those news by others :o)

Personally, after seeing all 'Momentium' for the PS3 disapearing after everything else that Sony has done I would hold off on proclaiming that it was 'back from the brink' until after the holiday season is done.

Realistically, on January 1st 2008 the PS3 has to have sold 8+ Million systems worldwide to not face serious consequences (and probably have sold 10+ Million systems to encourage third party developers to start new exclusive games); a blip of 40,000 systems sold in Japan is a good start but Sony has to maintain this and build momentium worldwide if it is really to come 'back from the brink' ...

Well it was only a matter of time ... Next year by now there will be probably ~ 14 million PS3s sold or more , and afther that exclusives will start pouring in :)

Sorry, but 14 Millions won't cut it. Sony needs more. It must at least outsell the 360 WW for quite some time to get more exclusive content. But it is nice that they seem to be back in the race for now. The more active system there are, the better the world gets for us (gamers).

might even get down to £150, might buy one then.

lol even wii cost you 179.9 pounds dude.

I'm sorry but am I the only one who thinks there's a lot of overreaction. Sony launched a new color, cheaper model, great game and they sell 60.000 in Japan.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good result but this was the last big Japanese game until MGS and Sony won't allow more pricecuts. 40.000 extra units is not really the enormous achievement that will bring the PS3 back in business.

Not to mention the beating it gets in the States.
