Of these 2nd Party dev(s), who could you see Sony buying by gen's end?!

Insomniac 71 34.80%

Media Molecule 79 38.73%

Quantic Dream 25 12.25%

Sucker Punch 20 9.80%

ThatGameCompany 6 2.94%

United Front Games 3 1.47%

Total:204

I think Media Molecule would be the most likely of those. LBP was a critical darling and decent seller, and they could probably nab the studio on the cheap.

Insomniac's rumored to be going multiplatform btw...

They've been rumored to be going multiplat since the start of this gen.  Meanwhile, only last month it was revealed that Insomniac is hiring for yet another ps3 exclusive.

So long as Sony keeps forking up the cash for development costs while letting Insomniac beat to the tune of their own drum, I doubt Ted Price and the gang will have any want to go looking for another publisher.

It was strongly suggested on Listen Up recently, not exactly business as usual rumors here.  I think they'll still do the biennial Rachet and Resistance exclusives for Sony, but they did just start up that shiny new studio in North Carolina... expanding their horizons would be a good move imo.

I doubt it. The companies are valuable because Sony haven't got their mits on them. Developers have a nasty habit of becoming less productive and having a lower ROI when they get bought out for a multitude of reasons.

And who do you think would be the publisher? They need a publisher, right? It can't be Microsoft because then it would be exclusive to the Xbox 360

EA? Activision? Ubisoft?

Insomniac love the freedom Sony gives them and is known to give to any developer it works with, I doubt they will want to work with any of those companies

I also doubt that Insomniac is big enough to publish their own titles

The other most improtant thing people don't look at is what kind of game will they develop? In the last 10 years or so they've only made Ratchet & Clank and Resistance games, both franchises belong to Sony

Can they take the chance of pissing off Sony by going multiplatform and Sony stop working with them? Then they literally have nothing to work on, that unless they make that new IP but then again there's a chance it would fail sales wise

lol.  Somehow I doubt Sony's quite that vindictive and overbearing. If they're still getting Rachet/Resistance, what would they care really?  And Insomniac has enough of pedigree that they could literally pick whatever publisher they wanted to work with.

United Front Games are not so much close to sony as other companies are.
i'd pick something else instead. btw UFG is making True Crime

I think Media Molecule is the most likely one to be bought. But whether Sony decide to do some shopping at generation's end, is a whole other discussion
