Meh, doesn't bother me. I have a firm rule about letting anything on the internet get me too wound up. For the record, I love both of those games almost equally, and are probably my #1 and 2 favorite games this gen (ME2 and UC2 that is). Reviewers are still people and commenters at least on IGN are INSANELY obnoxious. It's their site, they can write what they want. The article was actually well written and had some good points, they just used a flamebait title. I think it's fun to watch fanboys get their panties in a bunch, go IGN!

You really promote flamebait?

Umm. . . maybe I shouldn't promote it, but I have a lot less problem with it that a lot of people do. I don't expect NYT level journalism on the internet (except I guess on NYT.com ) Everything on the internet has an amaturish feel to it, so who cares? I mean, if I were expecting really thoughtful, well done commentary and I got flamebait, then I might be pissed. But looking at the IGN community a huge portion of it is pretty juvenile and eats this crap up. If it didn't get hits, they wouldn't do it. I think it's a worse reflection on gamers than anything, so I'm not going to jump down a websites throat for getting hits.

I understand, and I respect your opinion. I do really wish gamers wouldn't stoop to such low levels, but they're just common people, and their opinions hold little value compared to "professional" reviewers ("value" meaning how much of an impact it has on the gaming industry). For reviewers to make immature responses like this just isn't healthy for their image, if you ask me.

In all honesty, I just wish review scores would be dropped, and have the reviewer's words do the talking.

@Bolded - couldn't agree more, it's funny too because sometimes you see the score (say a 7.5) and think "Oh man, that stinks!" and then you read the review and they are marking it down because of things you LOVE (like turn-based rpg combat for me, IGN hates turn based combat), the score doesn't do anything for me in that case.

I say to hell with all of them, reviewers are dragging g the industry in the mud. I hope it gets much worse for them so people can see that they are no different from fanboys with celebrity appeal and a paycheck to flame.

A bit cynical but screw them, we don't need them.

*cough*

All of them? Really? I doubt you've read a tenth of the review sites in the world. Don't judge all reviewers based on GT and IGN, two of the largest and most shameless reviewers in the business.

(Former) Lead Moderator and (Eternal) VGC Detective

Frankly, as some people have already said in here, review sites have been doing this for years. Since the PS2/XBOX/GC days as a matter of fact. I don't see why people only noticed this recently following such 'rediculous' reviews as GTAIV, Uncharted 2 and etc. You think a 9.3 for Uncharted 2 is unjust? What about all the 8.2 and 7.9 scores given to good Wii games since it came out? Or look back to the previous generation and see the reviewers were doing the same thing to the GameCube. And don't get me started on DS games getting compared to XBOX360 and PS3 games...

Yes, reviewers have bad bias and stupid expectations for what a 'good game' is suppose to be, but it seems the fans now adays also are only focusing on two systems as well (PS3 and XBOX360). And reviewers have picked up on that. Part of the reason reviews have gotten this bad is because no one speaks out against the reviewers and people keep going back to listen to their opinions.

In short, its like those reviewers of Hollywood fashion on TV. They have absolutely no connections to the industry and never even touch a dress in their life, yet they have millions of people who listen to them simply because they have a media venue and are semi-famous. These reviewers are the 'Fashion Police' of gaming. And I say you should ignore them, because all they're doing is standing in a small room on the side of the red carpet trying to come up with reasons why a dress sucks. And then praise the dress for the one person they already like.

Don't diss the PS3, unless you're doing it for the shits and giggles pretty much. What that means is no unexpectedly low reviews, no dissing of PS3 hardware, and no dissing of Sony. Theres a rabid group of butthurt individuals who'll try to give you the same butthurt if you do.

Who would dare rate God of War 3 lower than 90%? I want to see if any of the major sites have the stones to do so. Who would dare rate Gran Turismo 5 lower than 90%? I sometimes wonder if scores are given out to appease either advertisers or fanboys. The bigger the hype gets, the more backlash potential and advertiser incentives to 'give a good score'.

Yeah, damn you PS3 fanboys!!!!!   You should start behaving with a level of maturity like that of Xbox 360 and Wii fans!!!!!!!

/sarcasm

I haven't seen any concerted attack on any site to the same extent, no.

Edit: To clarify, had IGN said "Uncharted 2 is better than Mass Effect 2, deal with it fanboy" it wouldn't have had nearly the same interest or negative response.

Maybe not here but It would have on IGN,   they have a higher percentage of 360 fans then PS3 fans over there.   Plus there would still be the few on this website that would have had a huge issue with it.    Plus the main issue was the "deal with it fanboy" comment.  Most people dont have an issue with you if you have a differing opinion,  they are opinions after all.  But when you insult one side for believing the opposite of your opinion, thats when it becomes a problem.

Yeah and I'm sure the PS3 fans never insulted the IGN editors for having a different opinion than them in the comments.

Does that justify what he did?  They are reviewers, it comes with the territory,  not everyone will always agree with what you say, some will even be insulting about.  But does that give them the right to be insulting back, no, it does not.

Ugh, IGN's such a cesspool at this point. They should slash and burn the whole operation.

I propose a hostile takeover, it's a well known site and we'd make a ton of money. Think of the chicks we'd score dood!

On the whole, a reviewer should keep his opinions out of a review (and his entire work) in the first place.  The major problem with the guys at IGN is they started just using their opinion AS their basis of judgement.  Yes, opinion will be a small factor in every review, but it shouldn't be the MAJOR factor of reviews.  What's the point in having those numbers at the bottom of the page if you're just going to use your opinion to be the major judge in the end?  And it even found its way into news articles and posts that should have been 100% statemets of facts.  The guys at IGN almost daily are finding themselves becoming a comments box of 'we think the industry should do this' instead of a actual 'news and review' site.
