Forums - Gaming - Assassins Creed GOTY?

Game of the Year this year will truely be deserving of whichever game wins it...

BioShock
Halo 3
Ratchet & Clank TOD
The Orange Box
Call of Duty 4
Probably Assassin's Creed
Probably Super Mario Galaxy
Probably Mass Effect
Probably Drake Unchartered

will all be in the running. I wouldn't want to be voting though... I would be switching about 6 times as I like each of those games for very different, but equally compelling reasons.

Probably Super Mario Galaxy? The game that every single reviewer out there is fawning over like nothing else? Please; more than any other game on that list, SMG is a shoe-in.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

I'll have to check out the other reviews (especially the 1up one), but I did see the gametrailers one.

I'd think they would score a little lower. They gave it praise with the new things it brings to the table, but they said they found things getting very repetitive after that. Somehow, the new stuff can cover up all the flaws, and I'd consider blending in as a civilian and taking out guards while they're right next to each other while they don't even notice you or do anything about it a pretty interesting flaw. . .

too many flaws in this game to even be considered and too many good games that deserve to be considered this year. too much hype can cloud peoples judgement..

No way will it be Assassin's Creed.

Well watching the Game trailers review, it seems like the big draw is what you see, and what you do takes a backseat Something I thought kind of weird, they say they don't understand how Ubisoft did such natural looking animations, but they mentioned earlier when you move around the city it's basically automated except for your direction, and it's really easy most of the time. If fundamentally all you control is the direction, and there's no jumps to miss or timed events to screw up, then is it that hard to understand how they did it?

Even weirder, they say there's no awkward animation transitions, but just before the five minute mark Altair kind of snaps in place after kicking a guard off a rail.

FYI, the 1UP review will spoil the twist Game Trailer’s mentioned, but apparently it’s something you learn right at the start of the game anyways.

The 1up review dampened my expectations. I'm going to wait for GS and IGN reviews now, was going to go buy it straight away. I don't expect GOTY eitherway. The controls sound awful.

If Halo 3 wins, i will do absolutely -nothing- other than lose all faith with videogame awards forever. I have the annoying feeling that Halo 3 will get it because OMGZ it sold millions.

Conveniantly ignore that it also got amazing reviews. Also Mario Galaxy is definitely not a shoe in, it has less reviews than bioshock and it's at 97 average review, Bio is at 96, also Mass Effect hasn't come out yet and COD 4 is at 95. Stiff competition for goty.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

From what I've heard of people that have played the game so far, this review is pretty spot on.  The game is fun at first but it just gets painfully repetitive.  Don't get me wrong, I still want to try it, but just heard this review is very spot on.

When looking at a game on Gamerankings, I always look at the lowest review first. It's bound to see through the hype at least a little and get to why someone might not like the game in question.

Thanks to 1up's review, I know that AC isn't a game for me. I was expecting more, well, assassination from an assassination game, and apparently there's only 9 guys you have to kill.

In the Game Informer review it states.

When you’re ready for a break from the story, a huge number of collectibles are scattered through the game – over 400 hard-to-find pick-ups and 60 secondary assassinations.
