Software sales were up 16% over the previous week... So, I would say roughly 20% of sales were probably net new PS3's at the very least. Which validates the theory that mostly existing PS3 owners bought a new one...
I was walking through Best Buy and saw the Slim, so I thought why not? And now I am the owner of 3 PS3's (80, 40, and slim)... Count me as a duplicate purchase. |
Bolded: Batman was released in the previous week, so if the PS3 Slim was never released, software sales would have seen a big drop from the previous week.
A rise of 16% in software sales translates into about 220,000 units. Take into account that Batman sold about 200,000 units less this week, and you are already at an extra 400,000 units.
Also take into account the fact that Guitar Hero 5 360/PS3 had a sales ratio of 3:2 in favour of the 360, when usually new releases have a sales ratio of 2:1 in NA.
