.... a few posts on a forum and suddenly we're the majority???

.... Seriously??

Those post were just a few excited fans.

EDIT: If some DECENT and WELL DONE analysis comes up and proves that even 1/5th of the first week's sales are trade ups, I will be shocked...

20%

If 400k new customers bought PS3 last week, then what games did they buy? The software charts don't look very indicative of PS3 being the top selling console last week.

I don't know what the percentage would be, but I'd guess the out of the week one sales, it was noticably higher than 20%.

Around the Network

To look at how many people are buying second PS3's vs. buying net new PS3's I think the software sales are a good indicator...

Software sales were up 16% over the previous week... So, I would say roughly 20% of sales were probably net new PS3's at the very least. Which validates the theory that mostly existing PS3 owners bought a new one...

I was walking through Best Buy and saw the Slim, so I thought why not? And now I am the owner of 3 PS3's (80, 40, and slim)... Count me as a duplicate purchase.

lol if only everyone in the world was like the fanboys on VGchartz then your prediction might be correct

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

It won't be, because on ioi's analysis its speculation, nothing more nothing less.

Bolded: Batman was released in the previous week, so if the PS3 Slim was never released, software sales would have seen a big drop from the previous week.

A rise of 16% in software sales translates into about 220,000 units. Take into account that Batman sold about 200,000 units less this week, and you are already at an extra 400,000 units.

Also take into account the fact that Guitar Hero 5 360/PS3 had a sales ratio of 3:2 in favour of the 360, when usually new releases have a sales ratio of 2:1 in NA.
