Forums - Sales - 360v PS3 gap charts updated for Feb

Maybe the 360 will go back to beating the PS3 by 50k a week now Killzone 2 is out and those games have been released for Japan.

Its all been a bit slow recently ...

^that's a given

I just hope 360 remains strong in japan.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

The gap by March 2007 seems a bit low to me, considering the 360's 1 year and 5 months headstart for PAL regions. Less than 7 million seems very low for 1 year of additional sales for the main NTSC regions and more for other regions.

Did the 360 really sell this slowly early on? I remember at the time many people hailed its "amazing" sales...

Ps2 was still selling well I think and might have slowed 360 sales.

These charts show the only real action is in Others. The Ps3 was never really threatened in Japan as the 360 was never really threatened in North America. Others is where the war is raging on and the 360 is ahead (most likely because of the headstart) by about 1.5mil.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Based on sold to retail data, the PS3 vs 360 sales gap was 6.7 million units by the end of 2008.

VGChartz had the end user sales gap at 7.7 million units, so according to VGChartz there were 1 million more PS3s on the shelves than 360s.

To me this seems strange, as 360s at least over here seem to remain on the shelves longer than PS3s and the PS3 over that time sold out a couple of times over this period, while there are still 119 Euro (incl. tax) 360 holiday season systems left in stores here as of today (the 30 euro off deal lasted a few months until the end of 2008).

1 million extra PS3s is a lot of extra shelf space! Are the PS3 sections in the average game store twice as big as for the 360 section or something?

Thanks for the graphs, kowenicki.

It's a shame your gap threads always end up as a damage-control fest. I see some are working on it already :D

Your cheapshot seems aimed at me. But really to be as accurate as possible with our estimates, the questions I asked are really very interesting and healthy questions to ask yourself.
