Yeah, I never trust anyone that actually types M$. I see that and I think giant tool.

why, we all know M$ arethe greediest pos company in the world

reasons:

1. All their OSs fail to work 100% correctly, fear the blue screen and data corruption.

2. Original Xbox, while being build to actually not fail, was the size of first gen VCR. MASSIVE

3. Xbox 360, while taking a smaller size, has a fail rate as high as their operating system.

4. The bought thousands of patents with the solo purpose to stop open source coding and small companies from creating software thats superior to their software in everywa. (OpenOffice.org for example)

5. DX10 is pointless but they are making the world upgrade to it.. opinion.. wait till DX11. (see Valve's statement)

The size of the original xbox really proves how greedy M$ is...

And if you think Microsoft is the only company who pulls shit like #4 & 5, you need to get your head examined. Even your precious Sony patents technology just to stop smaller companies.

Final is onto something tho. If only Sony would put out a model with no mem card reader or wi-fi and like a 20-40gb HD for $399 sales would really take off. The HD size matters very little. I mean an 80GB brand name HDD is $55 at newegg.com.

They need to copy MS and have 1 model that is at a considerably lower price point. The difference will be that Sony's bottom price point model is still FULLY functional. They still need to include a HD, just a small one and leave out the extras like wifi and memcard reader.

Umm, the wif-fi, card reader, etc  dont add hardly any COST. Those things are a couple dollars to add on.

And cost is what's really keeping Sony from dropping the price.

They cant afford to lose unlimited money.

If they could do that, then they could just drop the 80GB model to 399, because it costs about the same to produce as your hypothetical 40GB,-wi-fi,-card reader model.

pretty obvious why they got rid of the 20 gig version, because the losses were too big compared to the 60 gig one.  It saved them like $20-30 and they sold it $100 cheaper.

I'm sure we'll see an 80gig price drop when we see the 100gig released. As for the 40gig at $399 new I doubt it.

OMG, I was about to say the exact same thing.......THE EXACT SAME THING!!!

Anyway, Sony is screwing alot of people with this so called hardware strategy of theirs.

-At launch (Nov. 17, 2006) 2 SKU's released (20gb low-end model / 60gb higher-end model)  $499-$599 respectively

-Probably early 2007 (20gb model discontined / 60gb model remains)

-July/August of 2007 -New SKU- (Temp. price cut on 60gb model / New 80gb Even higher-end model released) $499-$599 respectively just eight and a half months after launch.

-Probably  early 2008 (60gb model discontinued / 80gb model remains)

- MAYBE Sometime late 2008-09 ANOTHER YET BETTER SKU COMES OUT and REPLACES THE ALREADY WOULD BE 80gb model, although I really hope that wouldn't happen! (For the sake of Sony and Sony's customers)

 See the pattern.

What I'm trying to say is that people or consumers say that having different SKUs is good and all but as long as long as Sony keeps bringing out SKU after SKU, the people that bought the previous version of the updated SKU is getting screwed (20gb/60gb users) which means that everyone that bought a 20gb or a 60gb PS3 is pretty much getting screwed because of the newer models.  Any thoughs...

When was the last time you saw a patient lawsuit with Sony suing the other company?

I think the people that got the 60 gig one should be happy, they got the EE which i'm sure will not be in any future versions of the PS3. The 80 gig does not have anything better than the 60 gig except for 20 gigs of hard drive space and motorstorm. That's not even worth the money anyway.
The people who bought the 20 gig might be a little mad because they could have waited and bought the 60 gig for the same price, but isn't that basically what any price drop is gonna do?

Yeah, Sony suing the company it contracted to make a root kit is cool. Same for their lawsuit against lik-sang, right? Or their patent lawsuits against Kodak.

The fact of the matter is, if you somehow think Sony is different then you really need to get a clue. They are a company who will screw over whoever they have to in order to make a profit and really aren't that different than M$.

Unless most of 60GB's are sold, Sony won't drop there 80GB model. They can only add a game or a controller. 60GB @ $499 and 80GB @ $600 + game/controller. When the 60GB model is sold out. They will sell 80GB @ $500 in US. 80GB in Eu for 549 + game. Say somewhere in november.

Put it this way, if Sony's cheapest console this holiday season is the PS3 w/Motorstorm at $599, they will get SLAUGHTERED.

I think many of you are overestimating what parents are willing to spend on their children this holiday season. The Wii is going to CLEAN UP at $250, and if the Xbox 360 bundles in a game (if they still had GTA IV they would have KILLED) they will do really well even at $350.....but jumping up to $600 is a HUGE jump. I still think even at $500 for 80GB w/Motorstorm they will have trouble.

Also, if the PS3 is $399 this Spring (doubtful), then then expect the Wii at $199 and the Xbox somewhere close. Ack!

Well "Ninty" caught on, and the people at Nintendo actually hate that nickname. As for M$, it's not just because they have so much money. MS also stands for multiple sclerosis, and a lot of people might be a bit squemish about typing that, even of the context is clearly not about the disease.
