Forums - Nintendo - Pictures shows a reason why 3rd party "core" Wii games don't sell...

Well, over the weekend, I went to Target, not to buy, just waiting for someone else to buy something), and I heard some lady say "Look, they have some GREAT deals on Wii Games"... I was in the same isle, playing the PS3, so I looked over and saw...

OH THE HORROR!!!

OK, well, anyway, the lady at least had a list with her, and she saw that none of the games her kid wanted were there, and left promptly... I however, looked through the games, and saw, So many shovelware and "casual" games, that I was tempted to ask the person in charge what the fuck was wrong in their head... There were empty slots, and I'm sure everyone can see the 2 potentially "core" 3rd party titles like Sonic Unleashed (which was practically out of sight), and Fire Emblem, and, if you want to count a third, the Force Unleashed...

Something is wrong with this picture when you have MASSIVE Wii display, there are literally 7 "Imagine" and "Petz" titles displayed, and there are slim-to-none hardcore games... Where's Okami? What about No More Heroes? Zak & Wiki? LoZ:TP? RE4? RE:UC? And don't say that they're "too old", because "Monster 4x4" is 2 years old and is holding a spot!

I can't wait to play  "Guiness World Records"!

Oh! THERE'S SONIC! BEHIND THE FREAKING DISPLAY!

Uh, anyone here want to play "Are you smarter than a Fifth Grader"? Didn't think so...

These Pirate and Movie game titles are "To DIE for"

Really? Who's going to buy a goddamn M&M game?

Hey, anyone want A Shitty Disney-version of Singstar "Sing It", or American Idol?

Oh look! A side-display! GARBAGE!

Retailers need to work their magic here... The X360/PS3 displays looked nothing like this...

So is Rayman TV party selling alot in your area? Anyway, shovelwares are actually good it only means it helps the shelves fills up more and make the Wii library have more games than the usual. LOL... Cant believe Petz was on top shelves was someone really buy Petz games?

edit: Party Babiez Ubi is on the roll!

Wow, there is an M&M game. I had no idea that existed.

It's like that here too, which is why I prefer EB or TRU at least.

They sell the games that people buy at that location. If you go to a store like Best Buy, Circuit City, Gamestop or many other stores, you'll see hardcore games there. I'd guess that a higher percentage of Wii game sales are casual games. Although at the Target stores I've been to, I usually saw a reasonable amount of hardcore games too. The other stores I mentioned are better sources for hardcore games though.

I'll come up with something better eventually...

I think that it's insane that you waited in the store for someone else to buy something, and that you took photo's.

And it's just business, they put up what sells more, if the "core" wii owners out there (every Nintendo fan on here seems to believe there are heaps of them out there) would actually start buying some of the better titles, than maybe they wouldn't have so much real estate dedicated to "shovel ware".

Target's analysts know what products are the most proffitable for them.  It's not like they just throw whatever games in the case and hope for the best.  There is somewhat of a science to this.  A game that sells well at circuit city probably won't sell nearly as well at Target -- these stores have a different customer base and consumer habbits are watched closely at each store.

So is Wii have more shovelware than the PS2 right now? Because I've seen more shovelwares on the PS2.

I dunno how console developers do it, but it seem shovelwares makes the console alive and kicking. It happened in Playstation now it happened on the Wii.

People buying core games know what they want and ask for it specifically, so they don't get displayed as often (even happens at Best Buy and GameStop), so for Wii and DS the display games are basically bait to get rid of the shovelware they can't get rid of otherwise.

Retailers have played a larger role in certain Wii titles not selling well right out of the gate than people think. Zack & Wiki is the famous example, most retailers didn't have the game even in their system let alone in stock. The first Phoenix Wright games on DS too.
