So I looked at Futureshop's flyer today (Canada's largest consumer electronics chain) and saw that they are selling an Xbox 360 60GB Pro package with 4 games (Lego Indiana Jones, Kung Fu Panda, Dark Sector, and Stranglehold) for the same price as a Wii with NHL2K9 (and Wii Sports by default).  Considering what exactly is inside the 360 it just goes to show what competition can do as far as pricing is concerned. 

If the Wii really did have competition (in the new demographics that the Wii has attracted) you can bet we would be seeing more of an effort on Nintendo's part in terms of both first and third parties and in prices.  If the Wii was struggling do you really believe all we'd be seeing for first party this Christmas would be basically Wii Music and Animal Crossing?  A big reason the Gamecube got one of its best games last generation (Resident Evil 4) was because of competition.  Nintendo now seems comfortable with sitting back and waiting for third parties to come to them (something that because of the fierce HD competition may not ever happen in ways that some Wii fans are hoping for).

Anyways some Wii fans can laugh at the competition between the HD consoles and their sales compared to sales of the Wii but I honestly feel that if things were somewhat closer then they would likely be playing even more of the first party games they like as well as seeing Nintendo work harder for third party games.

Yes, you are right. it is frustrating that things are going too easily for Nintendo. However, unlike MS and Sony Nintendo's only business is gaming so they /have/ to generate a profit. Whereas with MS gaming is a small fraction of its business and it has shown that it can afford losses and with Sony gaming will not be profitable this generation.

MS is offering gamers the most value out of the box this generation, no doubt. Nintendo would lower prices, most likely, if they could even keep up with demand. If Nintendo was producing 3 million units per month, you can bet your bottom that it would probably hit 199 soon or get better bundles. The Wii bundle you described is a store bundle as Nintendo isn't bundling anything like MS is.

So basically, the biggest issue is that Nintendo cannot drop prices while they struggle to keep the system in stock.  With a publically traded company, share holders could literally sue them if they make moves that are /clearly/ not in their best interests as dropping the price would be.  Until prices drop, don't expect Nintendo bundles and don't expect store bundles to be priced well since stores are virtually assured they will sell and they will sell this week.

I agree. nintendo needs a wake up call because they are starting to get cocky again!!! and pretty soon we are going to see preiods where the wii only gets one good game every 6 months like it was on the gamecube. i wish nintendo would buy exclusives like microsoft with all the cash they have you think they would but its not going to happen.

Maybe you are right, Nintendo is so comfortable right now, specially NoA that they feel like they dont need to release any game, since Wii's will sell regardless. It would be a good but impossible thing to see Wii sales drop dramatically, since Nintendo would have to start making games again for the Wii. As for now, they dont need to, since Wii is selling extremely well without them. Only Japan will get games, because that's where the Wii is selling kind of bad.

Really, who laughs at 360 game sales?....that system moves a lot of software, especially from 3rd parties, and in almost every NPD, it usually has 4 or 5 titles in the top 10.
