Forums - Gaming - Pokémon Go: Thoughts On It Ten Years Later?

Tagged games:

Wow! Crazy to think it’s been ten whole years since the launch of Pokémon Go. July 6th 2016 in NA and AU. Granted I was still a little boy in middle school at the time, it’s weird to think that this is what gaming was ten years ago.

I don’t have any particular question nor topic for this thread beyond just reflecting on the game. For how big it was for its time, surely this occasion is one worthy of a thread.

So… thoughts? Any memories (good or bad) you have with this game? Do you believe Pokémon Go had any impact on the overall industry or on the Pokémon franchise? Perhaps the recent boom in Pokémon could be attributed somewhat to the “spark that lit the fuse” that was Pokémon Go. Share!

The closest I've ever felt to anything approaching world peace. I mean, a girl even approached and spoke to me out in the real world! Sure, it was just to ask if I've seen a Snorlax but I'll take it.

Mostly just alarmed at how fast ten years have flown by.

The only mobile game I've ever actually been able to get into.

The first few months of it was amazing, suddenly the local lake park in my suburb was full of young people out catching Pokemon.

Pokemon Go did a wonderful job of revitalizing the Pokemon franchise. I still don't really get the idea behind its gameplay.

Crazy fact: years later, Niantic, the company behind Pokemon Go, sold the data collected from people's movements to the military to train drones.

Those were some great times, but I'm also glad I don't 'have to' check out gyms and Pokémon everywhere I go.

They need to release a new Pokémon GO Plus +, not the built-in auto catcher feature they're currently testing out.
