Forums - Nintendo - Unlockable content in Masahiro Sakurai Games

I’ve been playing different Super Smash Bros and the two Kirby Air Ride games a lot recently. And I just love how many unlockables he has in them. It seems like for the first 5-10 hours in any of them you’re just constantly unlocking stuff. That’s unfortunately a lost art in many games now. What use to be unlockable now seems to be paid content.

Around the Network

One of my favorites aspectd in any Sakurai game! So underrated. And it’s not like MarioKart where it feels very grindy to get everything playable— it feels genuinely super cool and rewarding. Almost like unlocking new weapons or new areas to explore in games like Zelda.

Only Masahiro Sakurai could make being restricted to like 8 characters upon first booting Smash Ultimate and needing to play the game to unlock the 80+.

Brawl blew my mind as a tween with all the unlockable. They were cool in Melee as well, but Brawl onward for Smash made unlockable very appealing. I'm looking forward to buying Kirby Air Riders because I played it at someone's house and saw how many unlockable they are and they look cool.
